You dont need monitors, regular speakers are just as good. In fact they are better. Dont waste your money on monitors. I own a pair of events, yorkvilles, and NS10s but they just dont cut it. I tried using my consumer aiwa speakers on a newbie's suggestion and its like night and day. The definition and clarity on my mixes now is amazing.

Hey smart ass, not everyone here has hundreds of dollars to throw around or (in the case of some of the newbies) the experience to know better. That's why people post here in the first place. Obviously, monitors are better - nobody is debating that. But for the financially challenged, finding alternatives to expensive gear is necessary, at least on a temporary basis. If you aren't going to help, then don't bother posting.

what do you think Bruce???? :D

Im so tired of this annoying conversation and it never goes away. Thousands of threads have gone over the same ground, why cant people do searches? When was the last time anyone did a mix on Aiwa speakers and had a mix that was remotely worth listening to? Enough already!!!!!

There are so many topics on this BBS that are rehashed over, and over, and over again. I wish people would do more searches on everything, and then post with specific questions.

Getting back to the other issue of this thread... About a year ago I went to Mars to listen to the different monitors they had had on display. I took my own mixes with me, ones that I knew had flaws. The Yamaha NS10's where the only ones that reveled those problem areas. Most of the other monitors made the mixes sound 'Good'. I already had a pair of Alesis Monitor 2, and the majority of the monitors sounded very simular to them. The Alesis Monitor 1 (not the M1's) sound too muddy. When I get the money, I would like to investigate into the JBL monitors.

There are no alternatives to monitors. There are enough cheap and quality monitors available that using consumer speakers is absurd. You can get yorkvilles for $180 new and less used. Thats a pro quality studio monitor. You can get an alesis RA100 amp used around $100. I think the point here is that monitors are not something you buy down the road, they should be one of the first purchases you make. Also my irritation, justified or not, comes from the act that this has been covered very, very extensively...why waste precious bulletin board space with this dead topic when you can a search. The first thing I do when I am curious about a product for instance, after talking to my offline colleagues is go to the various forums especially my fav Home Rec dot com and do SEARCHES for the product. Then and only then if nothing satisfactory comes up do I post a thread. I suggest all you people wondering about monitors do likewise.
