Cash is coming my way, in three loads. First two should come in at around the same time, both 250 euro's each. The third one could come in anytime between now and half a year from now. That'll be 500 euro's. So, ofcourse, I have been pondering on what gear to get from the cash (what? I can buy clothes too? hahaha)
Here's my current setup:
Edirol MA-10A monitors
SM57 copy
MXL 2001
Sennheiser MD21
Behringer Mic100 pre
Terratec EWX 2496
Comp: AMD 2000+, 512mb ram
I'll be recording mostly acoustical, electrical and bassguitar, and vocals. I have a part of my room acoustically treated, which works pretty well for vocals but is too small for something like acoustical guitar tracking.
It seems pretty obvious to me I should get rid of the berry and get a DMP3, which sets me back about 170 euros. I'm fairly happy with my mics, although I'd like something nice to record acoustical guitar. That would be something like the MXL603s, I know, but that'll set me back another 250, a bit more than I want to spend right now.
The monitors are so-so. I know them pretty well and am decently able to mix on them, but the low end is just not clear enough and I would really like some "real" monitors by now. Beem looking at these:
Tapco S5 monitors - 400 euros both
Event TR5 - 350 euros both
I can't go for the wharfs because I life in the Netherlands, and any 8" speaker is too big for my desk. Was thinking about getting the Samson sub for 150 euros aswell, but am not sure I will need them soo much.
I won't bore you with the rest of what I had I mind. Let me just ask everyone if they think the following purchases will be smart, going from a budget 500 euros:
DMP3 - 170 E
Belkin Nostromo Speed n52 - 40 E

It's actually a gaming keyboard/joypad but seems soooo handy for quick editing.
1 gig more ram - 100 E
100 E worth of Knauf rigid fiberglass, some nice fabric to cover it, some small lights to keep the lighting for the vocalist good and upgrade the overall feel of the studio.
That's 410 euro's, which leaves me with 90 bucks to deal with the rest my personal needs (even a gearslut has to eat).
Seems like a good investment? I figured I'd first get some stuff to make my working speed as fast as possible, and some stuff to make the homestudio more attractive and nicer to work/be in. Good for future jobs, because it gives a better impression, and I get to do my job better and quicker. I'll worry about the monitors and mics later.
