Allright, I don't have the luxury of going to music stores and trying out all the modelers so i need your opinions. I'm really sick of taking my GT-6 to school just to get some differant sounds, (mainly distortion) anyway, I need something I can listen through headphones so I can practice at school (solo practice in my frees) without pissing the teachers off. Anyway I have these options.

Sansamp
V-AMP

POD 2.0

Thanks for anyhelp you may be able to provide, I want this device to practice with headphones and possibally put through my yamaha aw16g to record rough ideas.

Cheers

personally, i would'nt want any of em' so it's kind of hard to pick. i would go for a podxt but that might be outside your budget. a good set of headphones would go a long way in getting the best sound out of any of those though.

I dont like the podxt. The pod 2.0 has a decent sound. Check out my friends band. He used the pod for the "rough draft" for these songs but they actually sounded pretty good.

I go completely the other way I hate the pod 2.0 but love the XTlive

XT live + good headphones/amp for live & the world is the oyster

if you don't want the amp sims then turn them off & use the stomp boxes modeled in the XT into your amp

POD xt. You must spend time tweaking. Read the manual. Good stuff hidden in that little box. Not to mention portable. Bump on good headphones. :)

You mentioned using it with headphones. I'm not sure that Sansamp unit has a headphone output.

You should check out the PODxt or xtLive which has a lot of features and capabilities as well as decent sounding models. In my experience Line 6 has the best models out of any other company. They have AIR Mode which make the models sound so much better when recording. They really got the modelling thing down and have some great products.

a good reason to give it the boot. now he's down to two. one has the "b" word on it....................

The sansamp is the best at getting that sound you want...but try to get an old SRD rockman off of ebay...they are cool.

Jusy to throw in a thought along those lines- even though it's not 'modeler' as such, a Tascam CD-GT1 can you get some decent sounds for rehearsal and have some help also with learning songs, tuning, etc.

If you really just want it for practice purposes... you can't beat the Vamp.

I wouldn't recommend it for live use or for serious recording (just my opinion). But for a practice amp... it's great.

My main amp is a Budda Superdrive. I don't like lugging it to band rehearsal every week so I bought a Vamp about a year ago. I use the Vamp as a practice amp at home. I love it for that purpose! I either use my studio monitors or headphones depending on my mood and time of day.

I haven't looked at the POD prices lately, but I know they are more pricey than the Vamp. That's why I'm recommeneding the Behringer. I normally would suggest staying away from Behringer products. But if you are just needing a practice amp... go for the Vamp. If you want to use the modeler in other applications (live, or serious recording), one of the POD products would probably be a better choice.

Dwarf - the mob on eBay selling the sansamp have inflated prices. They are selling Russian Big Muffs for $250+. I bought a new one as a standard Buy It Now for a friens at $145. There're lots of sellers on the bay flogging at extremely inflated priv=ces - do a price check on what you're planning to buy.

See Ray That's why I love you :D

I refuse to buy the V-AMP off ebay as they are selling it for its normal price. then I have to pay postage, I'll probably go with the POD, allthough I'll hold out, I've just found out that my friends want to go to the city next saturday, so I'll pop into allans music and try them out.

Venue Music Sydney have the V amp 2 for AUS$219 including postage use that as a comparison at Allans.

Billy Hyde Sydney sell the POD 2 for $395 another comparison price for you - be it at Allan's or eBay. Good luck.

Ahh didn't go to allans...well willl but I jumped the gun and got a digitech RP80 off of ebay, drum machine, tuner modeling (I know not the best but It's only for practice) for $112.50 (have to find out postage) and the best thing is it runs off batteries so I can keep it in my car and when I'm at school or on a break at work I can play.

I have the rp300a....I HATE IT! It sounds ok live through an amp but for direct recording it sucks balls.

And my reason for liking the 2.0 more than the xt is because of the amp models. XT has some really soft stuff, I need heavy

If you want heavy, then you can upgrade the amp models in the xt and Live by purchasing the "Metal Shop" pack, which has models of:

Bogner Uberschall, Cornford Mk50, Diezel VH4, Diezel Herbert, Engl Powerball, Marshall Silver Jubilee, JCM900 Clean & Dist, JCM2000, Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, and a 5150 II.

The standard model pack includes the JCM800, Soldano SLO, the JCM2000, and various Rectifier's, and believe me, the standard model set can do HEAVY...
