hello
I was at mars music and saw a special for MKI or MKII large diaphragm mics. They were only $99, the cheapest I've seen for a diaphragm mic.
Does anyone now what I'm talking about?
Are these good mics?
I hope it wasnt a fluke! I shoulda picked one up while I could still get ''em for false advertising.

Dernit! I found the mic, it's a MXL (sorta looks like MKI)..It's in the catalog for $199, so I imagine theyve fixed the sign at the store...But I swear it said $99

Here is a song recorded using the MXL2001 for vocals. I would be interested in hearing what was wrong with them, as I think they sound ok (technically recorded-wise).
sorry about the mp3 *spam* here....the song is posted in the mp3 clinic also, but I seem to "old" for the crew over there!!

You Forgot To Give The Link

And they sound ok compared to what?

Sorry

There's nothing there...

Anyhow, compare to crappy recorded vocals? How about compared to vocals recorded with an NT-1? Generally speaking, of course.

uhm..Which one sucks? The MXL2001, or the SCm900? or both?
I figured out why I was so confused. Mars mispelled all their model numbers. The $99 one I was looking at is the MXL
But the MXL2001 I think is a $200 mic?
Anyway..there's two different ones.

nuttin' where?...the link doesn't work for you....? hhmmm, that's a new one.

Funny you should ask about the NT1....
I returned my NT1 after a two day trial (along with an Art tube MP). Actually, I thought the Marshall sounded good, good enough to warrent keeping...so I did.

Well

I'm not sure for a fact but the MXL2001 and the SCM900 may be the exact same microphone inside; just different grills and housing with different names and numbers silk-screened on them.

I know for a FACT that the MXL2001 is Shanghai Feilo Electronic-Audio Equipment Co. Ltd. in Shanghai, China. I don't know for a FACT where the Nady SCM900 is made but A LOT of evidence is pointing toward that same company. Especially since I know for a FACT that the ADK A-51 and Joe Meek JM-47 is made by Shanghai Feilo Electronic-Audio Equipment Co. Ltd. in Shanghai, China and are the EXACT same mics as the MXL2001 internally; plus most likely a few others.

Which MXL models does Mars have going for $99 and have going for $200?

Here are the models: http://www.mxlmics.com/condens.html

I know the MXL2001 usually goes for around $200 or less.

Maybe the MXL1000 is the one going for $99? Is that a new mic? I've not seen it before. If it IS going for $99 and it sounds decent enough, I'd say it might be worth using as a live condenser mic; when SM-58 aren't cutting it and you really can't afford to spend more than that.

The link worked, but there's NOTHING under "Music", only under "Info", "Contact", etc.

Funny you liked the 2001 better than the NT-1. You must have been lucky enough to have gotten a "good sounding" 2001. The thing with 2001s is that the quality control SUCKS! Go down and listen to 5 different 2001s right next to eachother. You'll be lucky to find 2 which sound even close to the same. Heck, 2 2001s with consecutive serial numbers doesn't even increase the chances of them sounding similar to eachother.

Now you know why all the reviews greatly differ more than usual.

And Maybe

And maybe that $99 MXL is that MXL FOX Dynamic?

strange on the mp3 site....the music tab is what comes up first and like all the other mp3 sites there, the songs (or in my case, song) are on the right side with the d/l options. I am guessing that a blank page is all that came up when you went there. (I guess MP3.com hooked my song with the "reject" cane and yanked it off the screen!!)

I understand about the consistancy problems about the 2001. I guess I lucked out...I'll take that...or at least I am satisfied. I think my NT1 was defective (like my Art mp), hence there return. I posted all this spewage back when it happened...so no need to rehash (which I just did..har!)

Damnit this is pissing me off!
At the store they had two of the MXL mics, but on the $99 one it was spelled wrong "xLm2001"- even though the box said MXL.
So I'm sure that one was the 2001. I guess they could concievably have it priced wrong, if they can have the model number spelled wrong.
They also had one that looked like the V67 - but it wasnt gold - and that one was $200.
I'm gonna call them tomarrow and make sure. Maybe they HAVE mis-priced the mics, and I can get one for a cool $100 off!

So...

If it's not a misprint on the price for the 2001, then note: Anyone who IS going to buy one should go to Mars and buy the one that sounds the best to you.

And about that mic that looks like the V67, that sparked my interest. Then what color was it? was it an MXL?

It was the only other one that was an MXL.

I'll give them a call tomarrow and tell you what I find.

I Think I May Have Found-Out Already

At that price, I suggest going in and doing some comparisons with an NT-1. Hell I sure would if there was a location around me. Anybody wanna do me a favor? I'll even get my friend's NT-1 here and do a little comparision.

I don't know who actually makes the V67 so I don't know how the QC is. Something is pointing toward 797 Audio's CR616. If it is, I know 797's QC is FAR better than Shanghai Feilo's.
