I have a Soundcraft M12 and Delta1010.

1) Is there any way to hear a post-fader mix thru the phone out?

2) The board has XLR outs. Is it better to get a Y Cable (XLR XLR to TRS) or two individual XLR to TRS cables? Will both work the same?

Thank you very much

you should already be hearing the post-fader mix through the headphone jack. if you're not something is wrong with your board. the headphone mix should be exactly the same as the main outs. as far as your second question, what is your goal? are you trying to just get a 1/4 inch stereo mix?

Im trying to send the final stereo mix outbound to the soundcard.

if you have a 1/8 standard soundcard, i'd suggest using the rca outputs on your board if you have them. if not, get 2 1/4 inch to a 1/8 stereo Y cable.

The Delta1010 has 1/4" ins and outs - Im not sure what you are talking of.

I am asking if it is preferable to go with a Y Cable (XLR XLR to TRS) or 2 individual (XLR to TRS) cables.

It is preferable to use (2) XLR to balanced 1/4" cables.
If your audio run to the Delta is under a few feet you can probably use unbalanced 1/4" (the Delta will receive both types).

Thanks tmix.

May I ask - why would 2 individual cables be preferable over the Y Cable?

Thanks

Sure!

The 2 xlr to single tip-ring-sleeve is made to go from a stereo headphone type jack to 2 xlrs( not a balanced type jack). If you used that going from your mixer's xlr outs to one of the Deltas inputs you will only receive one of your channels into the computer (the right channel I believe) If you use the 2 cables, you will receive a true 2 channel input to your computer.
