Boy do I wish i would have found this forum a week before i bought my SB Audigy 2 Value....ha.

So I'm selling the SB card, Tascam DP01-FX, and Tascam 414mkII to purchase a Delta 44 (or is there a good reason to get the 66?) and a DMP3 (almost went Audio Buddy but...why have to keep upgrading?).

So question at hand; is there a mixer I should get with the Delta 44 or just use the Delta 44 and use Sonar for all that? Don't really need more then the 4/4 the that breakout box already has, so nothing big and fancy and of course, nothing expensive.

I'm using the system for recording guitars, bass, vocals....drums are already being taken care of with other means.

I'm using Sonar 5 Producer...not that i think it'll matter.

Thanks.

Personally, I don't think a small outboard mixer offers much if you already have external preamps. Routing the audio out through the mixer adds additional digital-analog-digital conversions which may degrade the signal, probably making it only worthwhile if you have great outboard gear and converters. You might want a mixer for monitoring/routing options, or you could get a headphone amp for that. I am using the presonus hp-4 for my monitoring needs and it does just fine.

I used a Yamaha MG12/4 mixer when I had my 44.

But if your not recording multiple inputs at once, then the preamps you've got will do the job so you don't really need one

I won't get one then. Gonna spend $150-200 on powered monitors. Unless there is any other suggestions for things i should get for this setup? Remember think cheapish! but of course...not to cheap :p

also, what about the delta 44 vs 66. tried to find stuff but didnt really see any comparisons of reason why i'd want the 66.

If you've got no requirement for digital input or output, then you don't need the 66

Get the 44 and save up a little more for the M-Audio bx5a's. I got mine from GC for like $250. Its the setup im using, and it works great for me.

I'm thinking of getting the Fostex PM-1 actually. Unless theres a reason not too....

Question....so lets say i get the Delta 44......do i need to buy another sound card for normal playback? I mean hows that work, how do i get everything to play back to listen to the recording? Also I use this machine for gaming so...need my sound still there too :)

If you're getting powered monitors, you can just hook them directly to the outputs 1/2 on the delta (which will work for gaming as well as recording). However, if you want headphones and speakers/monitors, simultaneously, you'll probably need a headphone amp, or some sort of splitters.

okay so what are outputs 2 and 4 then?

Seriously, i read (skimmed..........................okay...looked at the pictures) in the manual i got off the site and i'm a bit confused without having it here to play with...

So say im in a game....the delta card is going to feed the sound to the breakout box in channels 1 an 2, so as long as i always have channels one and two hooked up to my speakers, im good to go....?

Maybe i should just keep my sound card too, haha...always onboard sound (yuck).

final call:

M-Audio Delta 44
M-Audio DMP3
Fostex PM-1 Monitors

Will i be fully ready to record with this without any problems? (besides cables, computer and instruments!! lol)

If so i'm ordering tomorrow.

yeah, you've basically got it. Outputs 3/4 can be used for routing outboard effects, etc., but I don't think you can hook up additional speakers/headphones to them, as you cannot assign the main monitor mix output to 3/4. Trust me, the delta card is going to sound better than your current soundcard for both recording and playback, and having two soundcards running on the same system can be a pain. When I installed my delta 66 card, my integrated soundcard was automatically disabled.

Looks like a good first serious setup mate, you will get low-noise and fairly accurate recordings with that stuff. I'm only now upgrading my Delta 44, and even now it's only because I need 16 i/o rather than because the Delta is holding me back (going for a firewire Yamaha and MOTU combination which should be pretty sweet).

Good choice...but also..u should really get a pair of studio monitors..and a small compact mixer to insert all ur instruments. that way, u will have more additional inputs available on the Delta 44 breakout box.

That was my last couple messages, I'm getting the Fostex PM-1 Monitors.

Very pissed off right now, i can get them dirt cheap but the place excepts PayPal but not PayPal Credit where i dont have to pay for 3 months so I can afford them till after I see other stuff first, BLAH!
