I have a new RNC compressor and record w/ cakewalk pro 8. All of my tracks are on my hard drive. I would like to go back and add compression to some of the tracks and final mix. I use a porta one 4 track as my mixer. I would like to run a track out of my sb16 soundcard to the compressor to the mixer and back to the in of the soundcard to a new track on cakewalk. How can I do this without creating feedback and still be able to monitor the signal? Would it be easier to purchase the FX package in cakewalk to do this?

Thanks,

Hi By-Tor, bad news, you can't. We'll, you could, but you wouldn't want to hear the result. You can't use the line ins on a cheap soundcard for anything really. If you are already using Cakewalk 8, a great prog, you might as well start hunting for a good card. When I bought mine the best deal was Event. The Gina is a gread deal as it comes with digital I/O. With a quality card, you can bounce on and off the computer as much as you want, especially if the other end will take digital I/O.
In addition, your stuff will sound way better if you record tracks directly into a pro card, and if you are monitoring out of good card.
