Once this is all said and done, we can have a little discussion about people's methods and techniques for recording and mixing. I also would like to ue this to improve my recording skills by asking you guys what you might have done differently than me during tracking. For example, not being a guitar player, I don't know if my raw tracks are too bright, too dark, too distorted, too clean, etc....I'm sure it will make for an interesting thread.

After this is all said and done, I would love to see everyone involved take their time, and collaborate by leaving suggestions of what they hear about the winning mix, and what needs to be tweaked, and leave RAMI w one final mastered track.

Or you could put the winning mix in a separate "Master-off" (is that dirty? ) contest to have it mastered by the best secondary set of ears. 10-18 months later you may have a final version!

I must say, this is the most intensive contest I've ever been a part of.

Well, thats a very interesting 'take' on it... I doubt if RAMI really seeks that much attention....probably quite the contrary....Even if it were to be true, who the fuck are you to have to stick your .02 in??

IMO, RAMI seems to be an honest dude, offering people who come here an opportunity to mix someone elses material...and on top of which he is a good musician too, so why wouldn't he deserve the attention he's gotten???! He has obiously has worked hard to be where he has gotten and he should be heard....DOH, what the fuck is the harm in that???

Just maybe for a second look at the flip side, and give someone some props for trying to help out other fellow persons whom have a true love and passion for this, rather than just flinging your cyber dick around cause your ego had been beaten up.

Don't even bother w/ a reply cause anything else you say is just gunna dig yourself a deeper hole...unless you offer a sincere apology.

It's great to be able to listen to all the mixes, and hear what ya like and don't like or what you would do differently...what you would keep, what you would throw out..etc... it's an education in itself, this is an invalueable resource....

I would like to make one suggestion however, and I think it would behoove all of us and would leave RAMI in the end as the final winner.

I'm sure we all hear stuff in our mixes that are out there being judged that we would change or tweak that we can hear now that we didn't hear or didnt' have the time to tweak before the deadline...It'd be nice to take this 'all the way' and see it thru till the end.

Hi Perdicament and the rest of you guys.

The judges have all kept notes on thier listening results. It is planned to post a compiled snyoposis of these critics, to give you all a better idea of how we listened.... after the mix-off is finished. To have a discussion before then, may color some judgements. We have tried to keep it as nuetral as possible...hence the reason for so much anonymity, and the reason not much has been said about the mixes in any detail. This posting will provide positive critic and/or suggestions to all of the mixes. All of this does take time though. I hope you guys have the patience for this.

Then your mixes will be open for discussion amongst all of you, to discuss and discuss some more!! As far as the winning mix, there are several paths possible to take with it, to get Rami's song to the place it pleases him and to extend the learning experience. The mastering idea is a good one for those who want the experience, in this area. But I would hope the participation of this to be limited, only those who entered a mix in the mix-off. Why? Because listening to 16 mixes is a challenge for anyone as is and if it is left open, we could possibly be creating a monster. All in all, that decision will be left up to Rami.

I too feel I have learned a lot in this mix-off. I think it has honed my listening skills in areas I may lack. In mixing, one must be able to listen properly right?

Beings it is a contest, not just a listen for critic, the number of plays and the time spent listening, went into overdrive.....therefore, even though I did not participate in the 'mixing' part, I still recieved mixing education. I am sure I speak for the other judges as well. I do know they put their ears to the test!!!

I myself can't thank them enough for the time and energy they gave to being a judge...and still are giving!!! Thank you much guys!! I love ya!!!

Rami...thank you for providing the opportunity for us all to have this awesome learning experience and not just about listening, or mixing...but about structuring of a song...lyrics...pharsing...creativeness. One may listen to a song, and say...wow, that sounds kick ass!! And it does....but when you start listening in sections, and realize just how intriquite detailing can become to take a song where it goes...then that is amazing!! One may not even realize themselves, of the efforts they have put into the making and finishing of thier own songs, until they have analysed another's.

You are brought to wonder of the musical genius of the author of the song.

This mix-off has been like a class, tearing apart the structure of a song and analysing it. I am sure the more experienced we become, the less listening it will take to judge a song. BUT I do believe and always will believe that every song deserves multilple listens to be fair and sure. Some may require more listen than others, due to the make-up of the tune. The more instruments, the more tracks, the more imagination involved in the song, the more listening and time required. That is why this one has taken a bit longer....Anyway, I have made a short story long...I am done for now...Thank you Rami, I love you.

First of all, are you Cincy Kid incoginito? With all that winking going on.

Yes, as I had posted, that has been the plan all along with us judges, to make the best choices possible for Rami's song. Everything that has been done, has met with Rami's approval. That will continue on through the next phases of the contest and beyond...one step at a time. The posting of comments on the mixes has always been in the plan. I only post so much at a time, for the sake of not laying too much on the plate, that may divert from the issue at hand. That way we can focus on the stage we are in of the listening process. I understand it is hard to wait for decisions...I wish we could hurry along, but that is not possible.

We can't go any faster. We need to get the mixing finals out of the way first, then we can focus on the mastering sessions, if there is to be any. As I had said in my previous post, I think the mastering idea is a good one. Rami seemed to like it too. I would like Rami to hear the winning mix first, to see if he felt it needed more tweaking by the winning mixee, to satisfy what he wants....and discuss some things with him, before we continue on. If he goes ahead with a mastering session, he may just prefer to not have any judges on the mastering sessions, and choose the session he likes best himself.....things like that.

We judges do, have and will continue, to have Rami's best interest at heart. He is an amazing musician and well on his way to become an excellent sound engineer. He has that gift combined with hard, dedication to his music. Okay, so I am getting all mushy 'bout the Ram boy!!....so sic the Pansyassweaselboy on me!!


Suggestions are always icing on the cake to us judges and highly appreciated, as long as they are not too late in the process of where we are in the judging...doesn't seem to happen that way for us though!! We seem to be good at last minute brainstorms and changes!!!

Once a contest is in progress however, contestants should refrain from making suggestions, even if they are not still active in the contest, but even moreso...if they are still in the running. Even if the suggestion does not seem to be directly related to judging issues. It is just a good rule of thumb to go by.

I am not trying to be a bitch(I don't have to try anyway ) with you or anything. I am just taking my responsiblity as Judge seriously.
