and it has to be a full band. No singer acoustic people. At least 16 tracks of audio.

Check your private messages. I sent you one yesterday.

I 2nd Bears' idea, tunages (by donors he he heh.-thanks dudes) and flip for what tune
to mix... Hey but do the mix constestants get to say what tune is worth it?
How about the donors post the rough mix-at nowhereradio and we vote on what is
acceptable? Or is that too much?
I dunno . I just wanna mix something other than whats my tunages.
Just trying to get this rolling..

THis is pretty much what Mixerman's Mixfest was like ---

5 people donated tracks to 5 different songs... Then whoever wanted in chose which song they wanted to do....

I suggest though, that we only do 1 song, since we're all interested in hearing everyone's take on it.

OTOH - if you give people choices, you're guaranteed not everyone will like the style, the genre, the whatever....

I suggest a random draw on whoever is submitting tracks -- when the single one is chosen, then a rtough mix could be posted (to see what the original intent was).

My 2 cents...

Ron,
Thanks for the use of the FTP. It's nice and fast too.
We should have something up there soon.

It looks like we have a good song to use. Full instrumentation with good vocals and harmonys. This should work out nice for the challenge. I'll have more details soon.

Yes, good song, and from what I can tell, good tracking. Minor issue here or there, but great for this purpose. :-)

I'd be tempted to suggest that we limit ourselves to the tracks at hand... but on the other hand, it would be nice to hear the scope of what people come up with.

I don't think it'd be appropriate to re-cut tracks though.....

Again - I'd go with "...do what you can with your resources at hand..."

Are we allowed to add extra tracks to the song?

if you play cello, yeah. I'd like to hear a cello part after the first chorus and before the second verse. And if you guys have sound replacement plug ins, go ahead and trigger what you feel is necessary on the drums.

I was thinking of adding to the existing tracks, not re-cutting the tracks nor ommitting any of them.

Okay, looks like you guys have settled on this song, since there is no other up for grabs.

I'm uploading to the ftp site right now. I hope it works. Let this be a warning: the file is 360mb. It's a zip file. So if you do not have a zip program, you'll need to download winzip or similar program. The uncompressed size of all the files is around 500mb. At 20kb/s the zip file takes around 5 hours to download. The ETA that my computer is giving me for upload is 19 hours. So expect it to be at the server sometime tomorrow. If anyone has any trouble getting access to the ftp, les us know.

It's 16 consolidated 24bit/48khz audio tracks. Everything was tracked using no compression through a presonus m80 preamp through a Protools HD system with the 192 I/O interface.

VERY COOL!

BTW, great tune Fenix... let us know when the upload is complete...!

is there a time limit?

I would say give everyone who wants to mix this at least a week from tomorrow.

btw...16 hours left on the upload. Hopefully the download for you guys isn't as painful as the upload is for me.

Here's some more details on the recording for ya:

The drum kit featured on the recording was built by me with the exeption of the snare. The kick is 18x22 10 ply, 8x12 tom 8ply, 14x16 tom 8ply. The snare is OCDP 6 x 14 20 ply vented. The cymbals are as follows: 14" A custom projection hats, 18" Z custom medium crash, 19" Z custom medium crash, 21" sweet ride.

The bass if i remember correctly was an american made Fender Jazzmaster or Jazz bass.

The acoustic is a Taylor. I'm not sure of the model number, but it's a rare version of a popular model that runs around $1500. I think the difference is that it had a rosewood body instead of mahogany, I'm not sure. I know it had some kind of wood difference.

The electric is a hollow body Epiphone dot deluxe that never stays in tune. :) It went through a Marshall jcm 2000 50w head to a Mesa Boogie recifier 4 x 12 cab.

Here are the tracks:

Kick: Audix D6
Snare: Audix D3
Snare bottom: Audix D1 (phase is already flipped)
Tom1: Audix D2
Tom2: Audix D4
hats: AKG c1000s
OHL: AT 4041
OHR: AT 4041
Bass: Direct to Avalon U5
GTR Lead: Audix D3
GTR Lead2: Audix D3
GTR3: Audix D3
Acoustic: Neumann TLM 103
Acoustic double: Neumann tlm 103
Vox main: Neumann tlm 103
Vox backing: Neumann tlm 103

There's no way for me to mix it in for that time-frame.... for myself - I'll be working on it in between other projects as time permits and submit it here when I can...

that's cool. Let's not even have a time limit. Just post them on nowhereradio when they're done
