i said i was literally the shit. i don't know what i'm doing god damnnn. i know it's bad why do you think i'm here.
jesus..

ediiit.
instead of ranting how it was bad sayyyy what should i do. i dont know how to highlight the track and say "boost this please"

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

You never said anywhere in your post that you were involved in the recording of those mp3s in any way, shape, or form.

Instead of being an asshole and throwing out names, you should take a second and read over your own posts to make sure they said what you think they said.

If you any specific questions other than "what should I do", I would be glad to answer them.

Any idea who won? wasn't the close date July 20th? i presume that's 2006.

I wonder if they are in a heated debate about using drum samples over the "Natural" drum sounds.

A bit offtopic, but with what plugin can you wave-trigger samples? I did a google and forum search but didn't find anything. I presume they didn't actually 'manually' synced/copy-pasted samples for every kick.

Drumagog, APTrigger, SoundReplacer, DrumTrig, and a bunch of others.

Some people do go through and manually place samples. I'm way too lazy for that.

I didnt know that you mixed the track.
I thought you were giving us an example of what you thought was a roomy sounding mix. I pointed out what most folk that have good mixing ears would say.

Peace
Eck

Drum samples can be good as a last resort, but I tend to stay away from them.
Nothing wrong with replacing the odd snare/kick/tom hit with a better hit from a recording.

Doesn't look like much is happening here so I think we could dare judge this ourselves. Keeping it simple, we have 14 entries and let's say we just chime in with our top 3. Only the entrants can judge and have one listing.
Just list the top 3 in the sequence of :
1. Winner
2. Place
3. Show

Please note next to the your entry why you liked the mix.

Please listen to all the mixes at the same volume and do not use loudness as one of the criteria for judging the mix.

To give everyone ample time we will keep this open for voting til Sunday evening. Then we can rip things apart and suggest ways to improve the mixes for anyone that cares to ask. Take your time listening, it's your most valuable skill!

I found a little time for this and voted as follows.:
Win - fasterthanu - Good separation on the bottom end and good vocal clarity
Place - lyriex - overall good balance and placement with good mood buildup
Show - geet73 good tone, good balance and clarity

There seemed to be a loss of timing and drop out with the bass drum right after the first verse. Lots of guys added a metal bass drum part which I didn't think fit the punk style. There were a few overcompressed entries and my own was too muddy on the bottom.

I hope y'all vote and tell us how you went about mixing this.

I will have to say that I dont agree with Morning starts top3 atall. No dis to you, just dont get your opinion on the mixes.

Your #1s mix was muddy and scooped. No mids hardly. Guitars were very quiet and vox EQ didnt sit right. Paning seemed unbalanced also. Dynamics werent quite there.

Your #2s mix was better then #1. Had more balanced tone since it wasnt scooped as much.Vox needed automated for sure as parts where the vox went really quiet. Overall sounded a bit busy. Not enouthg space for each instrument. Lacking dynamics

Your #3s mix was the best of the 3 IMO. Tone was balanced well. Nice full bass, everything had its own space and was all clear. Samples sound quite realistic for samples. But I thought overall it was a tiny bit too scooped, missing some mids. and also was lacking dynamics.

My mix, I thought had good clear seperation for each instrument. Nice tight lo end and nice highs, but I think I used a bit too much mids. I was trying to make the song sound really full, but it kinda muddyed it up a tad.

for some reason lightning mp3 wont load for me, and i refuse to join soundclick to download songs... so out of the remaining here is my vote:

obviously i have a biased opinion, but i do prefer my mix the most :)..
i really didnt think that keyboard part was in tune with the guitars, so i cut it from mine..obviously my volume isnt pumped like the rest but i save that for mastering..
heres my order

1- seismetron - good definition, seperation, raw mix with good punk pop style
2- jndietz - good definition, nice bass.. esp like the chorus - too much verb on vox
3- fishmed - nice tight mix, clear..
4- fasterthanu -nice mix great guitars, a little muddy though
5- geet - good overall mix,,, drums too powerful (nice replacement though)
6- monkeymanx - good thump.. too many efx... esp on vocals..

just my opinion.. i do think the top 3-4 were really close...

Drums too powerfull? No such thing. :)
The click on the kik in Geets mix is a bit out of place which doesnt seem to fit, but the rest of the drums are good.

Seismetron, dont take this the wrong way as I do not get personal with anyone I listen and comment on what I hear.

Your snare doesnt sound that great, the kik is very hard to make out. Guitars sound nice and smooth but no real power in them.
Vox are too loud and need either compressed more, or alot of volume automation needs done to them.

You got the bass good as most of the notes can be heard clearly.
You dhould compare your mixes to commercial releases of same genre to see what is different about them.

Peace,
Eck

i agree my mix isnt perfect... esp the snare...

i was just comparing all i listened to..

i appreciate the comments though.. thats always helpful

Glad you didnt take offence as some people on this forum are quite touchy and take things personally, but we are all hear to learn and try and give advice.

Eck

I know that mine is overcompressed but I was on my mobile rig out of town so I didn't have anything worhtwhile loaded up. But other then that does anyone have any advice for me?
