we've used this mic on the snare (an old metal Ludwig from the 70's). was pretty close to an sm57....maybe a little brighter...

went into a digi 001 and a G4 Powerbook.....

I wouldn't say either the results from the 57 and the RS mic 604 wannabe were world class....it would seem though that on our modest system with no outboard effects except Alesisquad verb that is was just ok....

It seems you guys already cleared Rat Shack out of their RS 33-3032 mic's. :(

Now everyone is getting excited about a RS $15 mic?
What the hell is going on around here?

Anybody? Anybody at all?

*sigh*

Some of us have other expenses besides their mic closet; for us, there are rare (but invaluable) bargains that can make our meager studios sound better. A 50 dollar mic that is worth nearly 100 dollars now costs 15 dollars. If this is far below your price range, fine. But for the majority of us here at HR, these mics could do something for us.

Just my .02.

I just picked up my third 33-3032.

These things are great little live mics. I have been using my first two for 6 months or more and have had great results. Not only are they road worthy, but they sound good too, once you learn some EQ tricks with them. I think they are good for higher toms. I use them on a 10", 12", and 13" with good results. I have tried them on an 8" but they sound a little thin without some precise EQing.

Now I have mics to hold me over until I can get my Beyer M201's and Sennheiser 421's.

Greetings,
I now own nine (9) of these mics and I have three(3) more being held for me at a RS about 10 miles away. I like them very much, but let me emphasis, these mics are really only good for drums, and not for kick drums, but mostly toms and snare and they're also real good on hand drums (skin side of djembes and doumbeks, etc.). I am now being called by Radio Shacks that are trying to unload them and I'll be buying more at $14.97 each or better if they are floor displays. I now have enough of these but if any are interested (drummers only please, I'd feel guilty about reccommending them or selling them to guitarists and singers) I'll be willing to pass them on to you for just about cost and shipping. I'd just ate to see these little e604 capsules going to people for home cassette recorders and Karioke. BTW I'm not certain if this is accurate or not, but I've heard rom a knowledgeable source that these mics were made for RS by Sennhesser and mounted in a different housing. I'm told it is the exact same capsule as the e604 and RS violated its agreement with Sennheiser by selling them too cheap and Sennheisser pulled the plug. Let me clarify that this is what I heard, so it's only a rumor, I'm not certain if it's true, but they are almost identicle in performance to my e604's.

I tried them on harp and I dug the low-fi result I got through my little amp.

I don't know if this is true either. But judging from the design/shape of the mic, it's hard to believe that Sennheiser didn't either make these or approve the shape/design of the mics. The mic is shaped and outfitted outwardly identical to the Sennheiser e604s. There is so much similarity that I believe that Sennheiser would have a legitimate trademark infringement/trade dress infringement/trademark dilution suit against RS. As a result, I would be inclined to believe that Sennheiser either made these mics or approved their manufacture by RS.

Rimshot,

Please check your PM for a message. Let me know if it didn't go through too.

Thanks,

Any of the more “knowledgeable” RS dealers I’ve ask say they are Sennheiser and that their most expensive dynamics are made for them by Shure. I think your are correct in saying there would be a trademark infringement problem if it wasn’t somehow licensed. I just don’t think RS would take a chance on something like that. However, they could very easily be 2nds.

Hey everyone,

Well I have side with Harvey & Beezoboy on this one! Today I raided two local Radio Shacks and scored 4 of these babies. There are a few more around the area so those might be next!

I just tried them on electric guitar cabs and they sounded really (unbelievably) good in this context. Now, that said, I have to also say that you will find some slight differences in each mic tonally. For example with my four RS 33-3032s I bought today, two of them were similar in tone and had a fatter midrange response than the second pair did--they were MUCH brighter and more extended in the highs. So... I am keeping the pair that I weeded out from the entire herd this afternoon & will sell the other pair to a friend Saturday afternoon.

It doesn't get much better than this! I am also quite certain that these will work out just fine on our drummer's mounted and floor toms also. I am really happy with my pair needless to say.
