I need to find some techniques om how to mic up drums with like 3 mics (rode NT3 and an sm58 maybe an )
this is for live usage... give me as much information as possible(mix eq effects placement is the most critical info)

thanks in advance/

Look for my "fat drums with 3 mics" thread... good technique there, and sooooo easy.

ok i found it, thanks a lot both of you!
you saved the day!

Did you guys catch the part about playing live? Is the NT3 a LD condensor? If so you wont be able to use that live, too sensitive.

The 3 mic technique is more of a studio setup. For live micing you really need a kick mic like an ATM25 and a SM57 on snare. If the place is small that is all you need.

For larger setups you will need individual tom mics, OH's and a rack of gates and compressors.

i use radio shack mics live because i dont want them to get abused at the show or by being moved around.
My # of mics is limited so I 'll do this:
-1 overhead 16" above the cymbals, slightly infront of my head
-1 snare mic clamped on to the rim.(catches hihat)
-1 bass mic
-1 mic for two rack toms(clamped on to the rim and turned slightly towards the other tom to catch both of them)
-1 mic for floor tom-clamped on to the rim ( catches 2nd hihat and ride cymbal)

i then use Y spliters to connect these mics into a mini 4 track mixer and that line goes to the sound board. i can adjust my volumes on stage. i put the 2 tom mics in a split because they should be the same volume. and the bass and overhead into a split because they usually end up working out to being the same volume setting even if they were seperated.

this is usually for for a medium to large sized gym. ( the musicians in the audience said you could here everything just fine!)
