Rick - you have some competition here heh-heh
No no no, I don't know if these rooms would work acoustically, I only know a bit of architectural design and I've read John's manual a couple of hundered times... (I was even the first one to buy it back when it wasn't free)

Maybe something should be done about the parallel walls in the percussion room, which also might be too small. You need to check with someone who knows this stuff. :)

I'll take another stab at it tonight but my boss wants me to do some work for our company right now:rolleyes:

No problem, I appreciate the effort.

When you have time, I wouldn't mind you telling what you liked about the original design - what floated your boat about it?

I especially liked how you could see all the studio rooms from the console. I think you would really feel like a king sitting on the throne behind the console. Maybe this layout from John's manual can give you tips on how to fit soffit mounted monitors as well.

Maybe this layout can mess up your planning a bit :) Again, maybe the parallel walls need to be adressed and maybe the percussion room is too small. Heck, I don't know.

Maybe the "piano room" should be a "dead room" and the piano put in the live room. I'm only interested in acoustic music so I don't really think about "dead rooms" at all.

shell shock

Got my price today for five Genelic 1035B monitors.

$17,984 EACH.

I opted not to bother asking how much the sub would be.
I also opted not to tell my wife I even asked how much they are.

Guess I'm going to clean up the solder joints in my old Urei 813B's.

ACK!

UREI - 813a's ?? cool - really like those. We had them at Music Farm. :)

cheers

Yeah? Cool! I've always liked them, and have been sad for a while that they are too big for my home studio. Now I have an excuse to clean 'em up and put them to good use :).

You might consider framing differently such that the double doors aren't parallel. After reading some very useful information at http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html, I learned that parallel doors can cause standing waves. I think most of the example drawings at that site frame the rooms to minimize this problem.

Since my modest studio doesn't have the size and flexibility that yours does, I am going to be pretty much stuck with the parallel doors. I thought I might be able to somehow acoustically treat the faces of the doors such that this problem is minimized.

Okay, let me throw out the right URL. That would help, right? heh-heh. Anyway, the prior photo is the second floor, the office area.

Here is the current 1st floor design, but again, I'm going back with more along the lines of what you had outlined out for me the first time. I like that one the best.

Oh, and note the control room on the lower left corner is backwards, the walls do go outwards as they go to the back of the room. I pasted the pair of o2r's and the sofa in the wrong place. Fred mistake :)
