Used Midiman Delta 1010 24/96Khz converter for $625.00 (Canadian dollar) or go for new Echo Layla at ($1080)?

Or would it make a huge sound difference to go for a MOTU mk3 at $1600?

Thanks

the only way you'll really be able to answer this is research the hell out of this board and others, manufacturers sites etc. Since very few people have much experience with all the different cards, the best most can offer is their interpretation of their own research.

Having said that;) , I feel the 1010 is easily the best for the money and possibly the best, period.

The layla looks nice on paper, haven't heard much about it. It's either trouble-free, or not many people here seem to use it.

MOTU gets alot of criticism from PC users for poor support on drivers etc., but then so has Midiman lately- this is partially due the fact that there are so many Delta users on this board. I feel the MOTU stuff is way overpriced, though I'm pretty interested in the 24 i/o.

Most of the Delta complaints seem to be coming from XP users, esp. 1010/XP users who want to use two cards on one computer.

If you chose at random it probably wouldn't make a whole lotta difference...except maybe in terms of money! Pick one and start recording.

You can get a new 1010 for $529.00 USD. It's a bit more, but you get all the warranties.

If the delta 66 is 450 canadian. and the delta 1010 is 850. Is it worth paying almost double?

You get more inputs, of course, and outputs. Now i wouldn't need all of the inputs right away, but in the future i may. But are there other features/superior quality that make it a worthwhile investment? Would i notice that big of a difference between the 66 and the 1010?

The 1010 just has 4 more inputs and outputs, and midi and wordclock stuff right? I wish it had a monitor volume control :(

I believe the 1010 uses different - higher quality - converters. For me the inputs come in handy - I actualy have chained 2 for 16 inputs.

I have no regrets buying my 1010 (ebay for $420).

1010! 1010! 1010!

And the winner is : THE DELTA 1010!!!

Why don't I tell you how I really feel?;)

Where abouts are you getting one in Canada for 625? I'm in Canada on the west coast.

You need a pretty stable computer and a good computer tech background if you want to use a Delta, especially if you want to run two. I run two with XP and it runs awesome, pretty much flawless. But it required me to put money into the computer itself with a very stable motherboard and alot of tweaking. Just be prepared for clicks and pops if your not sure about your computers stability.

I have an abit kt7a mobo. Kt133. About 2 years old.
With an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 gig, the revised CPU.

512 megs of pc133 ram.

It's a little old but runs ok. But i have heard of the delta series having issues with the Kt133. I had some problems with an IBM hard drive and i flashed my Bios. it's solved that problem... Hopefully it will help the delta cards...

Hey Darnold, I thought two 1010's w/ XP was impossible. How are you doing it? Is it a "known" solution?

It was used. I found it being sold on a canadian web site. I decided to go with the MOTU mk3. What a card.... I installed this weekend and got fantastic results...

What was the website?
And how much was the motu? Where did you get that one from?

What are the features of the motu?
8 inputs?
preamps?

Sounds about the same price of an RME hammerfall multiface.

Delta 1010. Works fine, no clicks or pops if you update to all the latest drivers for everything. Wouldnt buy any other card.

Its not impossible because im doing it, even with two delta 44s and it works great. Im even running at 256 buffer setting with asio. I havnt had any problems. Like i said, you need a freaking good motherboard to do it though. Never ever slouch on the motherboard, you may think you have a nice motherboard, but unless you really do have a nice motherboard, you dont ;). But these nice motherboards do not come without a heavier price. Everything in the computer is connected to the motherboard, it is the main thing in the computer. NOT THE CPU.

Infact there is a HUGE performance difference when you are using these nicer motherboards, i guarantee it. For example, my PIII 800MHz computer outperformance and overbenchmarks most of my friends Athlon 1.8GHz CPUs. The difference? I have a very nice stable motherboard while they have they cheapest one they could find for there CPU (yah the cheap 50-80 dollar ones). Im not saying my PIII 800Mhz is faster than there 1.8GHz CPU, but what they are plugging there CPU into does not run there CPU at full potentual. Most of these people generally have constent errors with dll and kernel files. Yup! Thats why your getting those. This is one of the main reasons why macs are considered more stable than the average PC. They are built and customized to a standard on each of there computers. Some people say that an there 800MHz mac overperforms the newer cpu models made in PCs. This is false but has truth in it. It works the same way that my 800 overperforms many of the newer models too.

Now imagine getting your 1.8-3.3GHz in the nicest motherboard you can get your hands on. Now that will be amazing performance. Otherwise, your not getting much out of spending $300 on that 3.3GHz cpu :).

I used to use one of the cheap motherboards with my PIII 800MHz and i was having problems with running the 2 delta 44s even though they claimed it worked. I heard rumors that it was motherboard incompatibility so i decided i would invest in a very nice motherboard. Not only did this fix my problems with the delta 44s, but it did numerous and wonderess things to my computer in general. All those weird blue screens and kernel32.dll errors i normally got, COMPLETELY illiminated. I forgot even that they existed until i think about them. Also, i a was able to run 3 times as many plugins in my sequencers.

But back to the main point...yes, i am running 2 delta 44s in windows xp and i am fully confident that i could even run 3 if i wanted to.

I got the top of the line Abit board when my computer was new, 2 years ago.

I think it was between 200-250 Canadian.
So it's a good board, or at least it was a good board. Stable.

So you're not doing any special tricks?

I think the real problem may be with Delta 1010's specifically, not the other Delta cards.
