MIDI sysex via USB errors

Hi gang!

Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing USB device too slow errors when sending SYSEX dumps to synths, and if they have managed to overcome the problem?
Using standard Mac serial ports I have *never* experienced this problem before!
It has only started happening after I have been using USB for connecting the MIDI interface on a newer machine.
I would have thought that USB would be able to handle the same amount of data as the older serial ports.

Is there a setting I need to be looking for in my software? (Logic)
Note - I have given the MIDI device (Emagic AMT8) its own USB port connection (not running through a hub)

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Some midi interfaces choke on large sysex streams and have problems with sysex. I would try to find a midi program for the mac (I'm on PC so I use midiox) which allows you to throttle the sysex xmit speed.

Its not that the USB is too slow (it hundreds of times faster than midi), its just that some interfaces have problems with long sysex strings. I had all sorts of problems with my MOTU midi interface with sysex and I dumped it for the Midex, problem solved.

hmmm....interesting. I hadn't thought of that. Strange that there's no similar error when dumping from synth to Mac via the USB interface.
I'll do a bit of research on apps/methods of slowing down data transfer.

The Opcode Studio 4 devices I was using on the older Mac with standard serial ports work like a charm! Its only because the newer macs don't have the old ports that I had to get a newer device with USB. *sniff* I miss my Studio 4 ;)

Thanks for the pointers, altitude909
