Midi latency

Just started using Reaper 2.54, and just finding my feet.
Trying to record some midi using a Medeli dd506 drum module, via usb from the module.
Only problem is the delay between hitting the pads and hearing the sound. Local is off on the module so the sound is being transmitted to reaper then sent back to module.
In Midi preferences i've set offset output option to -9999ms which is close, but still not good enough for recording.
Am I doing something wrong or could it be that my laptop's just not upto the job? (Intel Celeron 1.73ghz, with 1gb ram)

I have a similar issue. I am using Toontracks EZ Drummer with a Korg nanoPad USB controller. It's not my main studio computer, just my screw around at home to build ideas computer, so I came up with a cheesy fix. When ever I "record" drum tracks with the nanoPad, I mute the track so that I can't hear what EZ Drums is playing. Using Reaper's metronome, I start off each take with a four beat hi-hat count off in time with the metronome. After the take, I use the four count as an alignment tool of sorts to drag the MIDI drums into time with the rest of the tracks. Works for me, especially since it's just for me to goof around on. Hope this helps.

You can try updating the ASIO drivers.

Do a system backup before installing anything though, just in case. ;)

No guarantee but it solved the same problem for me.
