My setup is a keyboard, separate JV-1080 sound module, and computer
with MIDI in and MIDI out ports. My first step was to do the following:
JV-1080 MIDI in to computer's MIDI out
JV-1080 MIDI out to computer's MIDI in
I did this so I could use a computer program called ChangeIt! to send
and receive SysEx data dumps to and from the JV-1080.
Now I had to decide where to plug in the keyboard. I've since learned
that this is wrong, but I tried pluging the keyboard into the THRU
jack on the JV-1080 (it made sense at the time), and as I played
the keyboard I was able to hear the correct sounds in the JV-1080.
It worked great!
After doing some reading I discovered that the THRU port is for
output to another MIDI device. So, why did everything work just fine
when I used it to input the signal from my keyboard? Will I damage
anything by using this setup?
Can someone please suggest a better way to connect these three devices?
Thank you very much!
