I have a tascam 424 MKII and am looking to buy a MTS-30 or other MIDI/FSK converter. Does anyone know know if it can be used to sync the Tascam with cubase and reason?

It can (But it is a very sloppy conversion process, which is not real accurate). If I remember correctly, you'll also lose 1 track on the Tascam, because the tape has to be striped with sync info on track 4.

Question: If you are currently or are planning to, use cubase and reason, why even bother with the Tascam???

I have one for sale -- a MIDIMan SmartSync -- if you're interested.

The computer I use is in the lounge so its not practical to record guitars, bass etc there so i use the tascam in the basement. that is why i wanted to know.

I see. Get yourself a cheap computer for the lounge and move your good one downstairs. I'm sure your basement is begging to be made into a full fledged studio :)
