Midi 101...?

Hi,


I've got a Roland KR-370 Digital Piano with general midi and in the past have used cakewalk home studio 7 to notate drum tracks for songs.. tehy sound average to say the least... to my ear, midi instruments sound dodgy.. but perhaps I just don't konw how to use them.. can someone point me to an intro to midi and how to get the most out of it?

You're right about GM sounding 'dodgy'. There are midi instruments out there that you would swear are the living, breathing genuine article --- but you won't find them in a GM sound set.

Thanks for that.. but i kind of already knew that stuff..

I've heard of things called soft-snth instruments.. that have better instrument sounds? Anyone able to help me here?

I recommend that you try the free ones first - Synth 1 and Triangle are two of my favorites...
