Wondering how big of a room/area you need to consider going with Mid Field? And do they offer any particular advantage, like..louder..more clarity?

What are some mid field options, what kind of $ range on average for powered?

Whenever I've seen mid field monitors they are usually flushmounted in pretty large control rooms. The rooms were usually at least 15'x15' and the monitors were about 5ft from the engineer.

Not sure who to recomend, I havent really used them all that often.

I've got a pair of urie 813c's and a pair of jbl4311's...both I would consider mid fields. Imo, they are SO MUCH BETTER than the current trend of nearfields, I'll never buy a set....and they are in the same ballpark price range NOW too...being that they are such old speakers. My "nearfields" (before there where nearfields) are dinosaurs too...the auratone 5c. I use them in a room about 15 x 15, and they are mounted above the console about 8 ft apart, and I sit back about 6 feet from them. They kick some serious booty.

yes...they are louder (if you want them to)...MUCH...like hook up a decent pwr amp ( I use a crown dc300)

clearer....I don't know...to me, I would say yes, because they are a better built speaker, all around.

I'm expecting a set of mid fields (A.D.A.M. S4C-As) next week. They're internally tri-amped (or was it quad-amped?) and cost about $7000. I have no separate control room in my studio (40'x50'x16') but the room is irregular (not a rectangle) and set up as "live end/dead/end" with the mix position in the dead end. While I've gotten good results mixing with near field monitors, I find myself often needing a bigger sound & a wider sweet spot to accomodate others (artisits, producers). Plus, I can turn them around & point them at the band for playback :D .

damn digimus...If I spent 7 G's on speakers, I think I'd know the names of the people who EVEN LOOKED at them...much less what kinda of ampage they've got...

PLEASE let us know how they sound...and what are you using now?

Well, the website where I looked at the info is in German, and the spec tables don't display properly on my browser, though I'm pretty sure they're quad amped. I'm using a set of nearfields from the same company - A.D.A.M. S2-As . They blew away my Mackie HR824s. They're distributed in the U.S. by McCave http://www.mccave.com . The S2s have a folded ribbon tweeter, and the 4s also have a folded ribbon midrange driver - the detail & clarity of the imaging is phenomenal. The last word I had was that they are in the U.S. now, but haven't been recieved by McCave yet. I hope they'll arrive here some time next week. .
