Microphones and humidity

I was wondering if anyone else has ever had a microphone(condenser) just fizzle out when it's really humid? At first you hear a few crackles, few pops, then dead. When this happens I return the mic to it's case and the next day it works. If the problem is just general humidity would a dehumidifier solve the problem? Should I stop singing in the rain?

I've read about this quite a bit, get that mic somewhere dry for a couple of days and don't use it during that time. It's very clear that water around a capacitor like that found in a mic capsule is going to be bad news ... hopefully, though, you won't have done any permanent damage if you get it dried out properly now.

This is one of the reasons pop filters are used - to stop close-mic'd singers spitting all over the mics!!!!!

EDIT - Always store your mics with some silica gel or similar dessicant in the cases ... to mop up any remaining moistitude (hey, I just invented a new word!).

Dessicant in the case is a must do in my book. My large diaphram mics I like to them in a plastic bag with a dessican thingy inside. I'm always a little concerned about the fine dust that can come from those little pouch things so I make sure to put it down by the mic connector end and try not to shake it up.

Ahhhhh Well I'm not much of a drooler...well not anymore...It's really a bugger though. One wants their mic(especially when only have 1 mic ) ready at all times. It wouldn't be so bad if my shock mount wasn't such a toy. I mean the kind of toy broken xmas day. Maybe I should invent an insulated cover.

Maybe put a plastic bag over the mic while on the stand with some of that gourmet salt that often comes with new sneakers? (perhaps too over the top ). I just like functionablity.
