I am currently recording straight into a presonus firestudio project (xmax pres)

looking to get a better preamp that will improve my vocal recordings. I guess I'm looking for a fatter more lush sound.

any ideas....?

GAP Pre73, FMR's RNP, Grace's m101, True's P-Solo -- All should be somewhere in that range (the RNP being a dual-channel unit, the P-Solo and the m101 being the most transparent, the Pre73 being the most colored).

to add to Massive Masters list, the Warm Audio WA12

If it were me ..... It would be a toss up between the GAP pre73 and the Warm Audio WA12

To tell you the truth - I purchased both of them. ;)

try a bunch of vst's... eq's and compressor's... theres great stuff out there, preamp simulators of the classic boards, that have versatile tones. then its like buying 20qty of pre-amps you can slap on all your tracks.

for hardware Ive a Joe Meek v3 (single channel) $150-$250 and ISA One (mic and di) box $350-380-

However, usually VST eq and comp are added later anyway...
