Hello,
I have access to SONAR and Acid pro and plan to do some home recording...

I want to record guitar/bass amps, acoustic guitars, and vocals, with room for expansion to micing drums in the future.

I have a very low budget.

I am considering the shure sm-57 and sm-58 mics. Would these suit my needs?

or would a large diaphragm condensor do better? Is the AKG C2000B worth the money and would it do better than the other two? How about the AKG C1000?

Also, what sorts of preamps would I need, and which ones would work best at the lowest price?

do i need a small mixing board?

Thank you to whoever responds to this...I know I have a lot of questions!

the 57 and 58 will work well for all the above mentioned sources except acoustic guitar. Their is a great mic called the MXL V67m that you can get from www.marsmusic.com that works great on vox and acoustic guitar, and it's only $99. I would get one of those, and one SM57 to begin with.

I know from experience, the C1000s is not worth the price. I couldn't tell you about the C2000.

SO with the MXL v67m I can record vocals and acoustic guitars, and with the sm-57 guitar amps? Will I need a preamp for the v67m? would the art tupe mp work well? and maybe a small behringer mixer?

Yes, both will work pretty well. also look at the MXL 603s for acoustic guitar. It's a great mic for $79.

the v67m will work well for both ac guitar and vocals?

and what about the ma audio audio buddy--is this a good pre or should i go with a art tupe mp?

Yeah, get the Audio Buddy over the Art Tube MP. Unless what you really want is mood lighting.

Yup,I agree with Kent. The Art TOOB MP works alright as a DI box but as a mic preamp it makes a good paperweight.
