mic to tame that piccolo

I'm recording my band soon and tryin to get the drums mics together. This is for heavy heavy rock. I'm tryin to fatten up the snare and tame the high pitch. I think m421's might be too bulky to get in there I was thinkin of trying a e906. I'm trying to make this work without breakin the bank, any suggestions?

A mic cannot pick up what isn't there to begin with. Try a different drum, different heads, different tuning first. Imo, if you want a fat snare sound, get a fat sounding snare drum.

Though I would suggest just using something that sounds like what you want originally, if you just can't get around using that snare, I suggest a little bit of Drumagog to fatten it up..

Just use drumagog, and the mic you use dosent matter, and you could turn a bucket (literally) into the fattest snare drum with absolutly no bleed from the hi hats.

as long as your aren't trying to recreate a fat deep sounding snare live with this piccolo, a drum replacement tool IE Drumagog would work quite well.

Drumagog sounds like a good way to me. The following two examples are DRUMAGOG replaced piccolos:

if you don't go the drumagog route, retrack it. A piccolo won't sound like anything other then a piccolo, no eq or compression will make it sound like a bit metal drum.
