I'm going with 2 and 7. 4 and 6 just seem to overemphasize the lows...

Thanks everyone for expressing your opinions. You helped me in my decision process (I've already made my purchase).

Somebody said that they just wanted to know what all mics were included without me giving away which mic was which. So...here is a list of the mics I used (in no particular order):

Studio Projects C1 & C3
Neumann TLM103
AT 3035
Shure KSM44
Rode NT1A & NT1000

See if you can match them with the numbers...
(Now isn't this FUN children???) ;)

I am amazed that none of them were dynamics.

OK, I don't know many of these mics, but I gotta take a (biased) guess anyway:

1) NT1A
2) C1
3) NT1000
4) KSM44
5) C3
6) 3035
7) TLM103

Give us a couple more days to guess!

This is so cool. I'm in the market to purchase some of these same mics so I can't wait to see which mic goes with what recording.
I really liked 2,3 and 5.

I kmow 4 and 6 are the "good ones"....KSM and TLM respectively, the rest are pretty closely related, having high end push 1,2,5,and 7 are the rodes and SP's with three being the AT 3035. Watch, I'll be completely wrong!

Remember... everyone is listening to those audio files with different monitoring systems, in different rooms and etc... so of course there will be many different answers.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing - my KRK's must have some massive low-end compared to most others, given the responses here! And I've got the bass eq'd a bit low, too!

Just for fun (and learning) if you have other monitors you could switch to them and see if it changes your opinion on which audio file you like best or not. I always listen to more than just one monitoring system before I decide what I like best.

What no NTK in this bunch? Should have tried that one to.

Actually...I did. At the store I tried the NTK, as well as: the Blueberry, the Dragonfly, the Baby Bottle and some Groove Tubes mic. Of the bunch, the Groove Tubes was worst, followed by the NTK.

The best 2 of the bunch (apart from the Neumann and the Shure, obviously) were the Blueberry and the Dragonfly (IMO). They were very similar, but if I were pressed to choose between them I would have probably chosen the Dragonfly. However, to my ears, the TLM103 and the KSM44 blew the rest away (again...IMO).

So, are you going to tell us which was which? You could always PM the answers to those of us who are through guessing.

To my very un-trained ears I thought #4 stood out. #4 seems to sound fuller with the most definition /detail. My wife listened, and agreed… My only geuss is #4 is the TLM-103, and maybe #2 is the 3035.

#4 and #6 were LOUDER than the other 4 tracks, so that may have had some impact on what I heard, but they certainly stood out from the others. Lots of proximity effect on #6...both of them seemed to have a midbass bump that made them sound fuller.

I didn't like #3-very thin, almost edgy sounding. #1 and #2 sounded a LOT alike to me.

#5 and #7 seemed to be very unhyped and accurate-as I got away from the monitors a little, they both sounded very natural. That kinda got lost between #4 and #6.....

That's a fabulous little test, and quite some fun!

If I had to select one of the mics from the list for your voice, it'll be #4.

When r u gonna solve the riddle for us?

sile2001...that "singing school" you mention wouldn't be Stamps-Baxter, would it? My daughter and I attended a few years ago. It was quite the experience!

Actually no, it wasn't the Stamps-Baxter school, although we do sing quite a few Stamps-Baxter arrangements. The school is called Harmony Hill, and we meet for one week each year in the Dallas-Ft. Worth TX area.

OK, OK stop nagging me! I'll tell you! Sheesh... ;)

For those of you who cannot possibly stand it any longer without knowing which mic is which, you can find the list here:

Thanks alot for the help in making my decision...

That's why I picked 4 & 6
They retail almost a thousand dollars more than all the other mics on the list. And they sound like they do.
It's true, you get what you pay for.

This was a great test, thanks again. I'm curious if you tried the KSM27/32, or AT40xx range which didn't make the cut?
