Anyone record a great singer to an MR-8? Mic sims seem to be the best effects on the unit, but I wonder if recording dry produced better results... Thanks

I could not tell much difference with the different sims. The choice of actual mic made much more difference, as did the room for vocals.

Ed Dixon is right, there is really no difference using the mic sims or not, the guitar amp sims are not any better. are you using a pre amp or mixer? Best thing i did for my vocal recordings was having the ability to use eq with a mixer..... and the increased signal output from the mixers pre amp

When using my condenser mic through a mixer then the MR-8 I can see no difference in the mic sims. When using a Shure Beta 58a dynamic mic plugged directly into the MR-8 I can tell a lot of difference. With a dynamic mic the tube sim sounds very muffled, the dynamic sim sounds grainy, and the condenser sim accentuates the highs (in a good way). Using a dynamic mic with the condenser setting sounds best (at least with a Beta 58a and SM58).

Learn something new every day!!!

I didn't even notice the MR8 had mic sims!!!

Are you sure?!?

Must be under one of the many menus which I have neglected to navigate...

They are right above the "effect send" knobs.

It's a dynamic mic plugged directly into the MR-8. I've mostly used the tube setting, but almost feel like there's some kind of artifact being injected into the signal - either like aliasing, or a slight variable time shift. It's as if there is latency in the sim and it sometimes just gets overwhelmed.

No substitute for a good mic and pre, I guess...

Still sounds amazing, though!

This sounds like maybe something is wrong with your mic sims. I've had no artifacts or latency. But, I didn't say in my above post just what you said. There is no substitute for a good preamp and condenser studio mic.

The effect if I'm hearing is very subtle, and may just be the combination of vocalist/mic/sim.

Sounds like it's time to go mic shopping...
