Hi my name is Spencer Pae.
I am pluging my SM57 mic straight in to my E-mu Audio Production Studio and every Time I turn the level up to high there is some noise in the signal. I tryed to gate it out but it still ends up on my recording when I turn the signal up. So I was thinking about buying the ART Tube MP preamp and put it in between my mic and my E-MU A.P.S, so I can turn the level up on the preamp and turn the level down on the computer side. Will that give me a good Signal to noise raito, or not. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Hey SpencerP:

First of all, if you have noise on the line it may be a bad connection, bad wire, etc. Check out the possibilities.

I've had off/on noises on my rig and when I check and jiggle each in/out plug, I usually find a bad wire and a new wire solves the problem.

I use an ART mic pre amp in my studio; however, I use it to run sounds from my synth too. The ART is great for vocals and can really spark/enhance My DX-7 sounds. I've even run my drum machine through the mic pre amp for special effects.

I might suggest that you try another mic through your present system; perhaps the mic you're using is causing your noise problem?

Hope this helps,

Green Hornet
