Cyan,

I do my best never to assume. That's why I offered you your "favorite drink" instead of a beer.

Regardless, if your ever in Denver let me know!

Thank again everyone...

the sweet spot

wasssup lunatic,
I did't even think that you were assuming. I was just letting you know so that when I'm in denver you'll be ready with that sweet stuff.

Did you know that denver is my number one city that I would like to live in ,
follwed by seattle, washington
and then Raleigh, NC

Anyhow, the manual of the dmp2(I just found out that dmp-2 is not correct), but any how the manual of the dmp2 talks about a SWEET SPOT that can be got by adjusting the gain on the preamp.

This has got me excited. As good as this unit sounds, it can sound even better? by minute adjustments of the gain? WOW.

I am going to test that today and get back to all of you with the results. Have any of you noticed this sweet spot? I'm so excited.

People from denver are strange.......That's why I live in the burbs!

Gotta get a DMP2 - maybe I can sell this dBx 286 piece o crap I have and get one! Forgive me, I was young and inexperienced.

Being a newbie I have to ask, why is the DBX 286 a piece 'o crap? I thought DBX stuff was good to go?

Hey Wally, maybe we can start a bidding war?

;-) Just kidding...

I just noticed, Wally, that you are in Colorado? Where? Maybe we can collaborate sometime. As for Denver, and to make matters worse, I actually live in Boulder.

HA HA HA

Wasting time, I walked into MARS in Richmond and what do I see...

A DMP2 sitting high above the software case along side the other Delta Stuff! I had just a little bit of cash on me, so I put that and a pop filter on lay-away (had to get the pop filter to push the total over $100 to do the lay away) So now I have four channels! HA HA! I consider the pop filter to be a usefull freebie. I asked if that was the only one, sure enough, I also had them check stock In VA Beach.... didn't do a nationwide search, but there may be *one* in Mars stock in some store... so go to your nearest Mars and check. Or I may have possibly gotten the VERY LAST ONE!!!! HA HA HA....
or at least I will when I go back up there and get it out of layaway :D

Man those two silver nuggets will look so nice side by side, sitting underneath my 1010! I'll have to order me a rack shelf, the ones on the Delta site look to be the same as the ones you can get elsewhere, one of those universal thingys...

I think the newer model Of the DMP2 will have a pad switch, this high gain mo-fo could use it.

Good job James!

The rack tray that is on the M-Audio/Midiman site appears to be the same type I have. Basically a universal tray with a ga-zillion holes in it. I got mine at GC for about $25 so I don't know that I would mail-order one.

Enjoy those bad boys!

Okay James I stole your idea. I called one of the Mars here as soon as they opened and I now have two DMP2s on hold! One of these I will keep and the other I am offering to someone who has not been fortunate enough to find one. I will sell this to you for the exact same price I get it at and you cover shipping. Fair?

According to the sales guy they have more in back.

If anyone is interested, please let me know before Noon (mountain standard time) tomorrow. I am happy to pick more up as long as I have a commitment from you to purchase. Again, I'll charge you the exact price I pay and you cover the shipping.

Or, if you want to purchase it yourself, the contact information is:

Mars Music
3106 South Parker Rd.
Aurora, CO 80014 US
Phone: 720-747-4477

I spoke with Jeremy in Pro Audio.

There is another Mars in Denver at:
8601 W. Cross Drive
Littleton, CO 80123 US
Phone: 720-922-1212

Yeah, I could hock these babies on EBay or some cr@p like that but I would much more give something back to this group.

Can you feel the love ;-)

Peace -Brad

the sweet spot. hmm

this is by no means conclusive, as I am still in the process of testing, but I have found that the character does change somewhat by changing the gain.

THe dmp2 imparts less character when there is less gain. At the 2 o clock mark, it sounds more ballsy, and when the gain is cranked way up, it sounds a bit smoother than at 2 o clock. It might sound smoother because when the gain is cranked up, you have to back further from the mic.

Anyhow, I am still testing but I am using it between 10:00 and 2:00. It seems to me my mic also sounds better when I am about 12 inches away, but I lose some of that in-your-face sound that you get when you record vox about 6-8 inches away.

anyhow, more testing is in progress.

I tracked a live show last night with the DMP-2. The set up was going to be my NT-1 and a 57 as my stereo (pair) I couldn't use the NT-1 cause the SPL was distorting the pre. so I put up another 57. The show came out good. I was pleased with the 57's (we sure were loud!)

today I was tracking with my drummer, a 57 on the snare, same thing... to high of a SPL! couldn't use it on the NT-1 overhead either... The second channel seems to be the more sensitive one, I tried a different source and chanel 2 was fine... hmm... When I get my other DMP2 I'll check for inconsistancies. I haven't turned up the gain past the first notch, man this thing is sensitive. Sure sounds good though. I guess I'll have to get some in-line pads.

Good news and bad news.

The good news is, I got my DMP2 today from Mars! Couple that one with the one from Audio MIDI and I have 4 channels of sweet mic pre.

The bad news? Mars only had one. The salesman apologized profusely. Apparently he had seen a box of them come in just within the past week and that is what he was going off of when I reserved two.

So, unfortunately I do not have an extra one to offer the group. Sorry :-( I tried...

Anyway, I should receive a pair of Marshall 603s by Wednesday. I'll test these with the DMP2 and hopefully post results by Sunday.

Wow Lunatic, you just beat me to it!!! i called those same two stores also yesterday. The Aurora store said they would get me one and honor the sale price. I hope they come through!!!

Didgman,

Give 'em hell ;-)

Actually, when I was there he checked the computer for stock at other stores. From what I could tell by looking at the screen, the only other store with stock was the Orlando store. That store had two as of yesterday.

Good luck!
