Which one is the quietest preamp tubes availible?

I'm honestly not sure and 12ax7 tubes can vary wildly within the same brand. If you can track down a NOS Telefunken 12ax7, now that is a sweet tube with an incredibly long life. If not, I'd just try a bunch and see what you like. I have another idea. Get ahold of David Allen at:

Tell him you are looking for a real quiet tube. He has ways to test for noise within a batch. he's a good guy and will probably help you out.
