Just figured I would post a recording question.

I am recording one of my rappers today.

Any suggestions on Mic placement and voice control.

For the main vocals, just make him rap has close as possible. Make sure you have a pop filter. Make sure you compress the vocals. (4:1 or 8:1 are good compression ratios for rap)

For the back vocals, just make him back 1-2 feet away from the mic. It will give more air to the voice and make it sound more 'in the background'

I place my above the rappers mouth so they have to rap with their heads up. Suposed to open the wind pipe for better breath control or something. All I know is it's clearer than when they rap down on the mic.

Also make sure cats open their mouths. Too many words get lost in slurs and low volumes when cats looking down a paper or catching the feeling.

If you have a condenser, about 6 feet away at the same height they are. If you have a dynamic mic, right into the mic.
