for the time being im using an omni condenser (samson co3) for recording both vox and guitar at the same time. im trying to capture the natural room ambience, ideally where should the mic be placed and at what distance?

It is really hard to give a pat answer.

You have to reach the proper balance between voice and guitar so vertically you would have to experiment.
Unless the room is EXTREMELY quiet an nice sounding you would still want to be pretty close to you like less than 2 feet.
I'd say depending on how loud you sing, you might start around the height of the top of the guitar, about 16 inches out.

No one can anwer this for you. Depends on the source, the room, the signal chain and your taste.
