I currently have the MXL 990/991 which I am really not impressed with. I might give these to my nephew along with my Alesis 8 USB preamp.
So really I currently have no microphones.
I am going to be getting soon, for my first real microphone, a ShinyBox 46MXL. (Mainly used for recording my fiddle.) I guess I'll grab an SM-57 since everyone has one but me. SM-81 seems to pop of often as a good mic, and is inexpensive, so I guess I'll grab one of those also.
Any suggestions to help fill out my mic locker? I need to record acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals also. I want something that sounds expensive but isn't, cause I like my money.
Vocals will be mainly old country, western swing, christian pop. Predominantly male vocals; I've been told I sing in the mid to high range.
Should I buy a Gefell? Neumann? Hrmm.. a million mic choices, so confusing
I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
James
