What sort of long time effects would you run into if your ignored all the advice about what to clean your tape heads with and just used metho.

People seem to say that you have to use Iso proply alcohol, but i dont understand how that would do a better or worse job of cleaning tape heads.

i have even read that using metho will permanatly damage tape heads. Aren't they just magnets though?

Are you talking about methyl ethyl keytone? That would eat them up.

Dude, Iso Propyl Alcohol is so cheap why even worry about it?

When i talk about metho i mean Methylated spirits which is a mixture of 95% ethyl alcohol and 5% methly alcohol. Maybe it is just an Australian thing to call it metho.

Iso proply alcohol is not that easy to get where i live, so it would be much easier for me to get methylated spirits.

I think any high purity alcohol (i.e low water content, no protroleum distallates) is fine.
