For other cras, yet vile, lyrics see any 'tune' (and I use the term loosely) by 'Cannibal Corpse'.

the name says it all..

For a band so brutally bad, they're great - not that you can understand the lyrics - check out Anal Cunt. Hilarious!

You Own a Store!!! YOU Own a STOOOOOORRRRRE!

Anal cunt has a song called " the internet is gay", funny stuff.

brutal music

Brutal in more mainstream listenable way for E.F.[
Not a shitty death metal style ( CC, AC)
Think Pantera, Slayer, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Fear factory

i believe the signal chain will have huge impact on the sound too, a sm57 is all good for guitars but team it up with a really good fat sounding mic preamp and it will make all the difference in the world.

Sorry... I'm not good with initials sometimes. CC, I assume is Cannibal Corpse and not CoC - Corrosion of Conformity? AC - Anal Cunt - both bands mentioned in the previous post.

Who is E.F.? Hopefully asking that won't make me look like an idiot....

I personally agree that, on a musical level, bands like Pantera, Slipknot and Fear Factory are WAY better bands. Anal Cunt, are really quite brutal - but it's sort of like road kill... you just can't help being fascinated by it.

I'll have to check out "The Internet is Gay." (not really expecting to understand what they have to say about it....) There's also a cover of the theme from "Three's Company." (a sit-com from the late '70's/ early 80's for any of you under, say, 25)

I'm not in support of file-sharing as a rule, but this is one of those instances where it really has a purpose. I would never actually BUY one of their albums, but in the interest of hearing it once for the purpose of expanding my own awareness, then that's cool.

Back to the original question for a bit...about tone:

This was sort of suggested before, but I'm not sure if the intent is the same, or if wasn't explained WHY the poster suggested this, but here goes...

You've got your track(s) recorded with all the distortion you want, but due to the amount of distortion, you have no attack on the notes. Record a clean track and put it into the mix, but back off on the volume. What you are trying to achieve is hearing the clean track ONLY enough that it supports and brings out the attack on the notes from the distorted part. You don't actually hear anything that SOUNDS clean.

Maybee im not understanding what you are saying, but did you say Cannibal Corpse is a "shitty death metal"??? Whoa, your fucked up buddy. Cannible has come a long way if you have listened to any of their last 3 albums the guitar stuff is great.
Check out suffocation, cryptopsy, nile, hate eternal these guys are pretty techinal players.
I like pantera and slayer and 2 slipknot songs......... but these guys are not BRUTAL, fear factory is a huge disapointment(compared to the older stuff) and mudvayne is a blatent vocal rip off of phil A. I hate labels...but they are relevent....
Emotional Flatline(hmmm... thats a carcass song)

shitty death metal bands

I didn't mean shitty as in , not technically proficient, i have always thought of bands that wrote lyrics like that to be a bit contrived sounding because of the lack of emotion put into the songs they create, to me it is shock value at best. Hammer-smashed Face is my favorite song by CC, but the lyrics i don't feel are the strong points. That is what my post was in response to, rape dogs, kill your mother or whatever. That is where i feel most deathmetal falls short. The players are amazing, the vocal delivery just kills me when there is absolutely no dynamics. And i am well aware that Emotional Flatline is a carcass song off of the Heartwork. If you are questionaing my bands originality i had been playing with the name before Carcass released that album. We sound nothing like Carcass, but there is another prime example of what i like in Death Metal, Heartwork was heavy as fuck, and intelligent, and the productionwas amazing, not like Necroticism, or R.O.P. And i have like C.O.C. Well, the new stuff anyway. Detune i am not here to cause arguements, i simply stated myt opinion. I guess on your scale of Brutal we would sit with Pantera, and Slipknot. I admit that Kud from Mudvayne sounds alot like Phil when he screams, but there is alot more to there music than being a Pantera ripoff. 2 Totally different styles. Back to the tone thing i am looking for Panter G.S.T.K. albums sound. Later all, i would have responded sooner but i didn't realize this page was continued on page 2.

fat preamp

Hey Mike what kind of FAT sounding preamp do you suggest and in what price range. later

Analytical man

The vocals and lyrical content (i agree) is what keeps death metal so underground. Buts thats the best part. You cant have grinding brutal riffs, with some dude singing over it - that will completly bring down all the power and brutality. I wasent getting all mad wit ya analytical man. Its gust that i have never gotton any respect for playing this kind of musick. And when people rip on my musick saying it "really eazy" or "the singer just goes-arhh arh rah" that piss's me the fuck off. Gessh, if they shut the fuck up and listned to the riffs and the drumming(come on can any body else play that fast?) they would see. thats y i got into death metal ,all my metal bands(metallica, kreator etc) were selling out going lame , i wanted something faster and sicker. These days all the newer death bands are really pretty proficiant players. And they dont need make up and jump suits. Dude check out Origin(they all do vokills and have differant voices-their would be some dynamics for ya) or Nile. You must like mike amotts(carcass) new band Arch enemy. I just seen them live the other night ,the female singer is the only thing that kept my awake.(lol) She cups the mic!
No flames man!! i dont like arguying w/ metal people.

True, that!! :D

Great band, that CC, though. They were wicked tight when I saw them live a while back. Their first four records kick serious ass, and influenced a lot of the bands out now. And yes, they'd sound all wrong with a singer/screamer--even if they had Tom Arraya!

"Hammer Smashed Face" is better known to non-metalheads as the song Jim Carrey was in the pit for in "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective." (I've been told that Carrey wanted the song in there cuz he's a CC fan--could be a rumor though.)

Yeah! I guess we metalheads know how the rappers feel... (granted I still dislike rap!).
But the cool thing is that people will respect, if not LIKE it, if exposed to it... a few pals were with me at that CC show I mentioned. None were really into the brutal stuff (CC was opening for the [new] Misfits, I think). But when the band busted out "Covered With Sores", my buds had to admit that the stuff was much more going on than they thought.

How'd they get that nasty squeaky-ass axe tone on the "Butchered at Birth" album?? Ten years old and still the sickest tone I've heard yet...

Dude was that thew show at The Strand(like 7 yrs ago) w/ anthrax and life of agony?? I was their.
That tone on butcherd is sick!!!!!!!

Death Metal Vocals

I don't think bands like that are bad, i love extreme vocals, anybody have Dimmu's new CD. Nick, the old C.O.F. drummer is one of the fastest drummers i have seen, as well as Pete Sandoval. I like a certain something in aggressive vocals like David Vincent, i think that is the old singer for Morbid Angel. The new guy is ok too but not as good. Nile is the shit, i haven't heard the new album yet... is it better than the last. I just can't get down with C.C. vocal sound. I like deicide's vocals which are similar, very similar. It just hit me what i don't like. It is more of the patterns and vocal lines rather than the actual sound. Any of you death metal recordists have MP3's done, or anything you have recorded. I bought the Wages of Sin by Arch Enemy. I like alot of the music, some of the music, but i don't like her vocal patterns either. Voice sounds good for death metal but these people need to do more with it, NOT sing, just more range in the screams, intensity, and highs anfd lows. More dynamics not singing. Anybody listen to My Dying Bride?

The new nile comes out in 2 weeks(i just saw them a couple of days ago) If you whant to hear a really fast drummer check out Devourment. I bought the new Cannibal last night, its fuckin great! These guys have not sold out yet(8th album) the guitar stuff is some of the best shit ive heard(playing wize) off a cannibal album. The new ORIGIN- hands down fuckin crazy, a million riffs, their drummer is the most technical drummer in death metal. Simply amazing! This guys like the neal pert of death.

You are aware the george "corpsegrinder" fisher(ex monstrosity) is the current vokillist for cannibal for the last 4 albums??? his voice is not as low as chris barns, but he does more with it. My old band opened up for them 3 yrs ago , i whent to give him props and tell him i really like his vokills, i was like shit this guys fuckin huge, almost wrestler size.

Seeing how this is a metal post I thought you guys should know that meshuggah has a new record that I believe came out yesterday. Nobody touches them in terms of layered grooves and time. Also soilwork from the same area (sweden?) is worth checking out. Totally pro arrangements with songs that dont require 40 listens to start differentiating. Theyre basically a more techincal version of In Flames who were all the rage last year.

Not for the meek.

detuned6: It wasn't the Life Of Agony show, I don't think. But it was quite a while back, I think it was Corpsegrinder's first tour with CC. They played a lot of stuff from "The Bleeding" album at that show... I THINk they opened for the new Misfits, at the Strand. Must have been '94 or '95.

A-Man mentioned Morbid Angel... loudest show I ever saw, Lupo's HEartbreak Hotel in Providence in August '95. My ears rang for three whole days, with a little muffling in the left ear for a day or so after. I haven't been to a show without plugs ever since. :) Killer show though. They opened it with "Dawn of the Angry" from "Domination." Sandoval is unreal to watch.

Yeah that was the show --misfits ,anthrax, life of agony and cannibal, it was for the vile album. I remember, because that is the only time they played the strand.. Yes and they did play alot from bleeding album, pick axe murders, pulverized( that was the shit!) Cannibal whent on first and had like a 20 min set , i was pissed, i whanted to hear some songs from the Vile.
I was at that Morbid lupos show too. They had the fans on stage and shit. Trey came out with a pink ironbird(***???*)I cant remember who else played on that show.

My friend told me that soilwork was bad live. Their singer sux.

JuSumPilgrim: check out Human Remains they are on relapse, they got some weird times and guitar shit.
