give me your feedback. first of all, I couldn't stand playing with my solid state crate amp, so I got a peavey valveking 112 50w. what a fucking difference. I love it. here are two clips i recorded with a drum machine playing. I will be playing live drums later, but for now drum machine will work.

peavey and digitech metalmaster

peavey and Rocktron Gainiac

let me know which one is better.

Im leaning towards the rocktron.

forgot to mention that each sample has two guitar performance (one panned hard right and the other hard left) for a fuller tone

If I were to compare the two, I'd say the second sounds better.

As a general question, I never understood why folks purchase a tube amp to then bypass the benefits of it by putting a different external preamp in front of it...am I missing something?

I'd say the Rocktron sample is the better of the two as well. It's interesting to hear what other people do with the same gear that I have. I've had that Rocktron for a few years and use it quite a bit. It blends nicely with my Warp,..however I use it for a center filler(my term),.. never really as the main body of the tone.
The last time I used the rocktron was on a song called "Immerse".
If ya wanna check it out it's here,..

Thats,..the rocktron as center and mic'd Warp for L/R.

take 'er easy,..

Dude I want to thank you for listening to us when we recommended getting a better amp. Its nice to see people actually taking some of the advice and realizing how amazing doing this stuff can be when you have the right equipment. Congrats on the amp and I like sample 2 better.

hands down the rocktron, i can't believe how bad the metalmaster sounds

^^^I second that. Between those two, I would go with the Rocktron, no doubt.

what's wrong with the amps distortion? I would try to get a good sound out of that than out of a pedal in front of it.

The second one sounds better but there is still sounds thin. Crank that amp up then stick the mic in front of it. Make sure that you are pushing the tube pres on the amp hard.

Yes after reading the specs, get rid of those distortion things and rock that amp. Keep the EQ flat and repost.

Peavey ValveKing 112 Combo Amp Features:

* 2 - 6L6GC power amp tubes
* 3 - 12AX7 preamp tubes

I agree that the Rocktron clip sounds much better. However, I'm not sure why you're even using a seperate pre-amp or pedal to drive that thing. I bet it would sound alot better with nothing in front of it. Try it like that with the pre-gain pretty low and double up your performances. And like suicide note said, start out with your EQ flat and see what that gives you.

I just tried playing just the Peavey amp alone with no extra gear. I cranked the gain and volume. I love the sound. Just need to record it to get your feedback. thanks for all the help you guys
