Metal amp

OK I'm looking for an amp that can get a metal sounding distortion/OD for about $3000AUS.

Any good recomendations?

You did say $3,000 AUS, right? I think you can get a Dual Rect and cab for that much.

hey, try a genz benz el diablo, it has lots of versatility and real good overdriven/ distortion tones. Or I played a peavey JsX the other night that was real cool, peavey's seem to have a lot more high/trebly sound to them. Another amp that I played and like is a Hughes and Kettner tube amp, I can't remember which one it is but it's there main tube head.......the same one Alex lifeson is endorsing, it had a wide range of distorted overdriven tones. But I would really reccommend the el diablo, I ordered one cause it is really versatile and and still heavy as fuck. It has a bunch of cool shit too. And the Genz Benz Cabs are really top notch.

You asked about the TSL vs the XXL. First of all, the TSL is a tube amp and the XXL is not. I've owned the XXL, the Peavey XXX, Peavey JSX, Rectos, and the TSL. They all sound good, but it depends on what you want. The XXL actually sounds very very good for a solid state amp. The XXX is a great Metal amp, but lacks the clarity of the clean channel that you can get from some other amps. The JSX is another great amp, and pretty similar to the XXX. Rectos are rectos, I think they sound kinda bad unless you spend days tweaking them or get them Modded (most pros get them modded, check out voodooamps.com, their mods are great). I think the H&K that DeadUnion was referring to was the Triamp, i've played it but never owned it, which is too bad because it is a trully amazing amp. I don't know how far 3000Aus will get you, but for straight up metal, go with a Peavey, probably the xxx or jsx. For versatility (good OD as well as great cleans) look at the Hughes and Kettner Triamp. The Boogies and the Marshalls CAN sound good, but I can't really find a sound I want out of them without getting them modded by Trace at Voodoo.

yep that's it the tri-amp. It is a great amp but like echelon implied, very expensive. Probably worth the coin in my opinion!

Iknew that was coming. I meant for a general Idea of what I can get for that price. I'm looking for a head and a cab for that price. But if it's going to get me further I guess I can settle for a cheap behhriner one for the time being.

I don't know if I understood that last post, but don't get a cheap berhinger man, at least settle on the xxl. Unless Im misunderstanding and 3000 aus(australian) is only worth like 2 bucks yankee. Then yeah buy a shitty 2 dollar behringer, thats all they are worth. I wish I knew what 3000 au is worth./......................off to do some currency exchanfe research.

ok shit that is like $2200 bucks american. Man you could get lots of good amps for that. YOu can get the Jsx, xxl, the el diablo......i payed 2400 canadian for mine, your options are endless, don't settle for shitty barf flinger head and cab. Go to the music store or stores where you live, bring YOUR guitar and fuckin wail every guitar head and cab they got. And mix it up with the heads and cabs too. Try the jsx through a marshall cab and so forth. You will FEEL the amp you want when you get to it. THen buy it, and if you don't have enough for the ONE that makes you cum in your pants when you hear it. THen wait and save a little more and buy it. YOu won't regret it. DOn't settle. Sell weed if you have to, pawn your parents dvd's, beg, cheat at cards with your friends, but don't settle for barflinger.

He meant a behringer cab. But still, you can get better. A great amp through a shitty cab isn't going to be very pleasing.

You could get the new reissue of the JCM800 $2000, You can get 5150s all day long on ebay for under a grand, Krankenstein $1600, Mesa Dual rectifier $1600. Marshall 4x12s are $750. You could get a 5150 II, two Marshall cabs, and a new set of tubes with your $. Damn, now I want a new rig!
