hi,

my mesa dual rect was blowing up the fuse, and i notice that the tubes(6L6) smelled funny. so i change the tubes for EL34 and the amp is sounding good, better that ever.
but my question is: If the tubes are damage, can they blowup the fuse?
that never happend to me......

Yes, when a tube shorts out it should blow the fuse. I would check your manual to see if you can safely run EL-34s in that amp. 6l6's and EL-34's have the same pin out but they are not always interchangeable, because they have different power requirements.

The dual rectifiers have the option to run either of those. There is a switch on the back that must be set to match the power tubes you are using.

thanx,
yes it does have a switch to go from 6l6 to el34.
any sugestion on tubes brands?
I have only tried GT, mesa and sovtec.
but Im reading some reviews about ruby tubes

Go to eurotubes.com Best prices around and very nice tubes. I've never tried el34 in my DR. I guess I should at least try them.

Last I heard, the Sovtek and Svetlana tubes are still pretty good. If you want to go hardcore, try to find a set of NOS Phillips tubes. I had some in my head at one point, they lasted me 4 years. I only changed them because I moved and didn't want to get stuck with a dead tube quickly, so I got the amp re-tubed and have the Phillips as backups.

MMMmmm...
I think NOS will be to expensive for me.
At least at this moment
