Mbox2 noise problem

I'm still quite new to these forums and have searched for an answer in the forums but nobody has had a problem just like this.
I'm using Pro-Tools 8 with an MBOX 2 on my 13" macbook pro with Lion OS on it. I'm getting some electrical noise/hum/whine. It's only in one channel and shows up in pro-tools and Ableton Live. Nothing is plugged in to any of the inputs. It makes no difference if I switch the inputs from Mic to DI. However if I turn on 48V it peaks like crazy for a few seconds before settling down to it's hum again. It gets louder audibly and visually (in Pro-Tools) when I turn up the gain on the MBOX 2.
It's also greatly affecting the ability to record audio through this channel.
I've tried switching the USB cable and tried multiple cables for the input of the audio source.

Sounds to me like one of the channel pre's is bad. Had the same issue on another interface from another manufacturer. If it's still under warranty see if they'll fix it. Even if not they might.

Thanks a lot for the response. I'll try contacting them but:
Could this still be the case if I'm not using the XLR jack just the "Line (TRS)" and "DI"?
