Mattress fort

We have a guest room that's about 25'x15'. It' s basically just being used to store beds and other junk.

It's got thick shag carpeting. That fake cork-looking panel ceiling that you see in most business offices (the name escapes me). Three sides of the room are painted brick walls (it's a basement living room).

We store two queen sized beds in that room.

I am wondering if I can just make a mattress fort around my DAW area. Would this be an effective solution? As it would be cheaper than buying those large "wall" foam panels from Auralex.

Or should I just spend the money on four of those Auralex "wall" panels that fit together to create a portable iso booth?

-thanks.

the auralex walls form a noise reducer like if you place them in front of a drum set it will prevent some of the niose from bleeding into the rest of the room and into other mics if there are any (miking amps or something), you cannot get an iso booth out of auralex walls nor matresses but you can get somewat the same general purpose and a gobo. so go for it and try it... but if i were you just to be easier moving in and out of and looking nicer I'd go for the auralex walls... or just get wood and some 703 and instructions and make your own sound proof iso booth.

There's a small walk-in closet in that room that I might decide to record in instead. It's right under the staircase leading down into the room.

There's enough room for my boom stand/condenser mic, chair and my laptop DAW to track acoustic guitar and vocals. Just need to throw up some stuff on the walls and ceiling in there to deaden it a bit. Maybe some mover blankets or thin foam.

It would be hard set up my Hafler power amp and KRK monitors in there to track or mix with those in there. So I picked up one of Hervey's MoreMe headphones...I can just plug that into the headphone out on my laptop audio interface to track with. And do the real mixing/monitoring outside.
