For any of those people out there who master on pro-tools, is there any good DVD's out there that show a good tutorial on mastering?

Well, if by "mastering" you mean "getting your mix louder" (that's what most new guys mean), then I suggest throwing Maxim on the Master Aux/Fader and just bring down the threshold. xD

If you're looking on the specifics of all things mastering, I'm sure Massive or Waltz can help you out.

1) Listen objectively. **

2) Do what the mixes ask you to do. **

3) Create a compliant production master. ***

** This seems to be where a lot of people seem to have a problem.

*** Unless they've changed something, this isn't possible in ProTools, which might go to the core of your question.

Here's some podcast dedicated to mastering:

I wouldn't look at it as being daw specific. They all pretty much function in a similar way.

Having an honest room and special attention to critical listening is half the battle.
..and then do it over and over x 1000 ...like anything... gl
