Hi there

I can't figure out how to connect these devices, so that my sound module receives midi and sends the sound out to my mixer (which I use for monitoring).

masterkeyboard (has sounds but it's set on local off)= MK
sound module (jv2080)= SM
pc= PC

Someone suggested me to connect it:

MK midi in > PC midi out
MK midi out>PC midi in
MK midi thru>SM midi thru

I tried that, the sequencer (cubase sx) received the midi data, but then played back the GM sounds on the Soundblaster, hence no data were received by the sound module. I could state that since the green indicator on the sound module never blinked as it's expected to.

I

Thanks in advance!

mk midi out -> pc midi in
pc midi out -> 2080 midi in

great!!! but.... :-/

Thanks a lot!dude!! I pulled out the thru cable and .... it worked! Now the sound device receives midi data from cubase, the green midi light blinks....but....

no sound comes out of my speakers (the main out from my mixer goes into the soundcard analog in, the soundcard then sends digital audio back into one of the mixer stereo channels).

I'm aware that midi is merely data, so what I did was simply sending a stereo output from the sound device directly to the mixer, I mean: the midi device gets it's input from the pc and plays the corresponding patch?? Or....??? Where does the midi to audio conversion take place???

the midi to audio conversion takes place in your jv2080 device!

The 2080 has a headphone out. Test if there is a sinal on the phones out first.

Maybe you have choosen a wrong program number.

There are different ways to operate your sound module.
One possible way is to use the sm in 'entertainer mode', with keyboard layers and stuff. This is very usable when playing live.

The best mode for producing is the simple program mode. You choose one of the 16 midi channels available per midi cable and select a sound (called programm or patch eg 'Grand Piano') for this channel.
In this mode, one midi channel is representing one instrument.

oh i forgot:

the 2080 has 3 stereo out pairs, you can route the single instruments to those outputs, or let them all be outputed thru the main out by default.
