$2800 for an HD28! I got my D41 for $2700! BRAND NEW

Yeah. What's up with that? $2800? Was that vintage or list? I bought a brand new HD-35(same as the 28 but several hundred dollars more because of three piece back) three years ago for $1600.

The $2800 was a list price at a local music store. Everything they have is too expensive. They will let you play the guitars though.

It would be interesting to make a list of big name musicians and figure out which of them choose an Alvarez Yari when they go on stage or in the studio. I wonder what percent of the songs that we've heard on the radio over the years have been recorded with a Alvarez Yari? It's probably staggering.....

Those stupid old professional musicians. Using that expensive stuff when a cheaper model sounds better than what they're actually using. ......:)

I've got an ADK51 microphone...... it's like tons better than a Neuman don't you know.

LOL

Those Alfred E. Newman mics are highly overrated and overpriced too. My little all-wood Silver Maple Series Yairi blows stinkin' Martins away. Now, a nice Taylor may take him, but not no Martin. I'm going to find me a real guitar when I get ready to upgrade.

And I suppose that you have played all 200+ models currently being manufactured by Martin.

It must be nice to be so sure about everything:rolleyes:

THIMK

Now what's wrong with an Alfred E. Newman mic??!!
I had one of those as a kid. Used it to knock out one of my brother's teeth.

Now I'm Mad.

:D :D      :D :D

Ya but a Yari is slightly different than an Alverez. And I haven't acually seen one with a price tag but they are a bit more pricey.

Once I had an S. Yairi dreadnaught. It was a hell of a guitar, but rather strange in its own way. First, it had a laminated top. Second, all the work inside was clearly hand done; nicely made, but hand cut blocks and bracing and so forth. Never could figure it out. Laminated top + hand building = Huh?

The other thing was -

Well, I got it used in the winter and the case had a really bad infestation of fleas. Didn't have a clue until the next morning after the thing had sat in the living room all night. My roomates were not amused.

Yairi's are hand built in Kazuo (sp?) Yairi's factory in Japan and are all hand signed by him. Not many guitars in the same price range have signatures. Your run of the mill Alvarez guitars are Korean imports, but good ones at that.

On a related note, I just bought a DY-52 on ebay.

*fist pump*

I didn't say Alverez wasn't good.....I just said that Yari is slightly better quality. (Gibson / Epiphone) Even though it seems to be the other way around in this case.

I picked up a Martin HD28 on closeout recently. I played a bunch of other guitars in its price range, 1500 and under, but liked it best. I went in looking for a Gibson or Taylor.

Since then I've been reading about the poor and/or high action on Martins. Mine must have been in the store for a while since the action was most likely altered--it is very low--and came with coated strings, which are surely replacements(?). The guitar is easier to play than my electrics. I loved the sweet sound, but the action was the real seller. I liked the shorter scale too since I have small hands and it allows me to span an extra fret or two.

Visually there is some bear claw on the top and some visible glue along the heel. So its not going to win a beauty contest, but I love it.

Having said that, I agree with the original poster that the Martin brand is probably hyped more than is reasonable when compared to other manufacturers offering quality instruments.
