I have one and I love it for sure but my dad's D-35 sounds better.

I dunno. I don't which particular model you're talking about, but i generally prefer the Taylor over the Martin. I'll have to look for that guitar next time I'm at GC.

martins and taylors are just... uuh, different. taylors are more of a modern sound (bright). martins just have a nice mellow tone.. unsurpassed imo..

I'm not usually a fan of the blingy/glitzy Martins, but I played a OM-42 at a GC this week which was pretty nice sounding, even with the cruddy strings. I still prefer my Santa Cruz OM/PW though.

Have you played any "boutique" guitars such as Goodall/Collings/Santa Cruz/Huss&Dalton/Froggy Bottom? Martins are REALLY nice, but some of the offerings from these smaller companies are freakin' sweet (as Peter Griffin would say)

Not to knock Martin (I own two of them), but they make around 70000 guitars a year, whereas some of the smaller makers make under 1000 (Froggy Bottom only makes a couple of hundred) a year.

But hey, in the end, we shouldn't obsess about the gear so much as we should just sit down and make music!

yeah, i've played some santa cruz, collings, larrivee, breedlove and a number of other "smaller boutique" guitars.......and they're all nice to some extent or another......but when it comes to getting that Martin tone, there's just no substitute for a Martin. i've told my wife that for my 40th birthday that i want a Custom OM-42. she's got a few years to save up still. :p

and i'll keep my comments about Taylors to myself. :D

cheers,
wade

is the best sounding acoustic guitar i have ever heard. just thought i would let you know....

Actually the D-45V is nicer IMO....but at $6500, it was a little out of my budget.
But ya, I bought a D-41. Its just an HD-28 with more sparkly stuff.
