Marshall MXL603S Mic question

I was looking closely at the 8 MXL603S's I have, and I noticed that all of them have a little silver ring around the inside edge of the grill... except for two of them... the one's I got from http://www.shreveaudio.com Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who got some 603's from Shreve Audio noticed this also?

Did you get any MXL603S's from Shreve Audio, and if so, did you noticed any missing silver rings on them?

Yeah, I have 8 of them... I have two small studios and a lot of mic's. :)

mine looks like it they have the rings

Thanks Herm.

The silver ring looks like a shiny silver/chrome washer and is aginst the outside of the grill and flush with the end edge of the mic.

Has anyone noticed any silver rings missing on their MXL603S's?

I bought one from shreve. It seemed to have to subtle differences in appearance from the one I already had. Sounds fine though.

Does that mean one is missing the ring?

Yeah, that helps... thanks. The MXL603SPR's I got from 8th Street all have the rings also.

Hey, thanks everyone. I just noticed the 2 MXL603S's I got were missing the rings and wonder about the one's everyone else got. Anyway, thanks again everyone. :)

Oh, and you new first time MXL603S owners... how do you like your new 603's?

we got ours last week, i was going to use them for overheads but never got the time alone to record...we ended up just setting them up as room mics while we all jammed...im not the most experienced at this but i had a couple radio buddys and recording buddies over and they were all blown away...they were set up across the room from the drums and picked up everything, through 2 guitar amps...
im heading to the studio and im going to bring back the audio and listen to it here, i will post a link once i get it online, nothing special musically, just a couple covers, but i think it should give an idea how they sound used that way...
someone before mentioned that when they were using them as overheads they placed them pretty far back from the kit. i definately can see the wisdom in that when we were setting up the levels for the drums they were pretty hot...
so, all those words add up to...i like em...oh...and audio coming...

Well, I'm one of those poor fools who has a good bit of recording tools, but no time to use them, so I haven't tried mine yet. Hopfully sometime this weekend. I'll let you know.

I've been sort of impressed so far... I've used them on acoustic guitar, and the high frequencies seem a little bit hyped but not shrill... They are getting their first drum OH test next weekend, I suspect I will experience the same. They are definitely sensitive enough, though. No problems there.

I'm testing them Today, since I just got my mixer back from being repaired, will let you know!

If I get the pair that Tubedude is thinking of selling me, (damn I hope he does:D ), I'll compare them to some Oktava 012's and post a report. Obviously that could be a while off though.:(
