I have been looking at the Marshall Mini 15w stack for a while and will probably get one soon. Most reviews are great, but some knock the speakers in the cabinets. There are 2 - 10" speakers.

My question is, do you think it's possible to upgrade these to some Celestions or something better? Is it possible the speakers are unique to this stack somehow?

My roommate had one of these for a while and I can tell you now that it was unconditionally the WORST sounding amp I have ever heard. It just sounded like complete mush regardless of how you tweaked the settings. It had no dynamic sensitivity to it either...basically everything you played was the same volume.

Replacing the speakers would clean up the mush? Most bad reviews I have read on this point to the speakers as the issue.

If you're buying it from a store, ask if they will let you hook the head up to some other cab (like a 2x12 or something, make sure the impedances match) and see what your ears tell you. If you like the tone running through a different cab, then you can probably get a decent sound by changing the speakers. If not, then it's probably more of an issue with the head itself.
