The V57 is a rebranding of the 1006 mic, which I have and...sometimes use. It's your typical cheap LDC. Rather hyped top end and slightly more noisy than mics the next level up (like my V67B, B3) ...but it has its uses. I have one regular client (tenor-baritone) that sounds absolutely frigging fantastic through it, and it's not a bad guitar amp mic either.

I've heard good things about the 2003, but haven't used it myself...

Nope... my favorite Marshall Electronic's mic is the MXL603... and the V67G can sometimes be nice too IMO.

i have the v67 and the 2003...both awesome mics for the price.......

I have a pair of 2003. Very bright and detailed. I use it for voiceover but would not generally recommend it for that for others. I have also used them in an ORTF pair for field recording of choirs and instrumental ensembles. For this I think they are superb.

What are you planning to record with them?

I have abunch of MXL mics 2001/990/991/V67G. They all have their uses for me. Cant say anyone is bad, just more application specific.

bring this thread from the dead rather than start a new one. I am new to recording and I am thinking of buying my first mic. I wanted to go with the Marshall Electronics MXL2003. All i am doing is laying down some vocals. you guys think this is a good way to start out?

thanks

rob

for vocals, i rather the v67....of course, it really depends on the voice itself......

the 2003 i use more for acoustic guitar.......
