I am planning on recording several clips of songs for my new cover band's demo. I have started this song but need some great help. Drums are EZDrummer and bass is Trilogy bass with the Ampeg plugin in front of it. Vocals were recording through a Shure SM7B and went through my Line 6 Toneport.

The recording seems very lacking and I am an amature at recording so I'm hoping to get some good tips. Reverb, Delay, Comp? Where should I go from here?

Also, there is some nasally quality I can't seem to EQ out of the vocals. I am posting a solo clip of the vocals below as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually I think that sounds pretty good for a band demo.
I think the vocals are a bit too forward in the mix .... and the bass git is kinda missing in action. It's there but not there enough IMO.

I didn't find the vox too nasally in the mix .... I didn't listen to the solo vox.
But the mix I did listen to is decent .

What could you suggest to make the mix more lively? Should I add reverb to the vocals? Or maybe the other instruments? Does everything seem to be EQ'ed okay?

I agree that it sounds pretty good for a band demo.

I feel the drums are lacking, and a bit buried in the mix but commenting on them doesn't seem fair considering you didnt have a drummer for this. Programmed drums always have a bit of a dead quality to them.

My only complaints are that the vocals are just too upfront, they sounded great and the singing was great but it just kinda annoyed me that they were so loud.

Also, you could track the guitar with a little less distortion. Its a common mistake while tracking, because when youre listening to an amp it almost always feels like you could use more dirt but, it'll sound better with a little less in this case (my opinion anyway, heh). People often do this in punk rock, they try to just crank the gain to eleven when all they really need to do is make it very crunchy and hit the guitar agressively.

Props for a good mix though.

vox are too forward and dry for my tastes, I'd stick a little light delay on em, some reverb, and turn em down a touch. Maybe if the vox were a little quieter, the drums wouldn't sound so far back. I'd do that 1st then re-evaluate the other stuff. I like the guitars the way they are,

Do you have a suggestion for a good reverb and delay to use on the vocals? I might also try it with Addictive Drums, it seems to mix a lil better for me sometimes.

I use the ModDelay plugin in cubase. My default settings are 11% feedback, 11% mix, 50% delay mod, 200 ms or whatever matches the tempo. For reverb i use 'Reverb A' anywhere betw 15%-40% wet depending on what the singer likes.

I think u overcorrected a tad, now the vox are a little quiet. You were WAY loud before, now you're just a little quiet tho, so dont even go 1/2 way back, that'll prolly be too much imo. I'd give em like 1/2-1 more db tops. The piano fills the 1st choruses, thats a nice touch :) I always like that song, and good singing too btw.

Okay I did a little EQing and adjusting, and played with some background stuff. It sounds good in my headphones, but varies on other speakers. How does this sound. Is there anything I should do to the vocals? Is the guitar too loud, or maybe need some mids EQed out? Thanks for all the help!

Performance-wise OK. Vox are louder than everything else and need some ambience. Snare sounds a bit muffled and I can't hear any cymbals except for th ehihat here and there. Bass and guitars sounded OK to me.

Yeah the vocal is too far in front, good delivery though. However the whole thing is too one-dimensional and lacking dynamics. The chorus should come in with with a crash and be louder than the verses. Is there backing vox in the original - can't remember

hehe i like this. the lead singer sounds like a cool guy! kind of like lenny kravitz or hootie. and maybe micheal jackson.

its swaggering! i like the piano on the chorus.
