So I'm doing a cover of Map of the Problematique by Muse.
I've recorded everything (I play/sing everything except the programmed drums) and done a fair bit of mixing (volume and panning), and it's nearly-ish done.
But I don't really have a good idea of how to EQ tracks well, or what i should listen for when eqing.
With this track http://www.muziboo.com/Kazza3/music/map-of-the-problematique-unfinishedI have actually had a go at eqing the vocals. For the lead I added 9db at 2.5k and shelved everything above that up 2db. This did work in making the vocals feel more like part of the song while standing out, but I think it may sound a tad funny (your opinion here would be appreciated).
For the backing vocals (which may not stand out enough anyway), I attenuated everything below 100 Hz for the low vocals and everything below 200 Hz for the higher one, cut the mids (1-4k) by 10db and increased 10k upwards by about 10db. This was all by some internet thing regarding how to eq different parts.
But please, this is my first home recording and first experience with mixing. If you could help me identify parts that need eqing, etc, that would be fantastic. (Comments on the panning or anything else would also be great).
Thanks
(PS Sound quality has obviously been lost in conversion to mp3 for this site)
