hey...it isn't bad with vocals. i like it more than without ;-)
yes, with presence, i meant frequency-wise. exciters are also bad toys (i never use them) :)

just a very rough sketch (your version was already a bit overcompressed on the masterbus, so this is more for the frequency balance):

thanks Jan...Im going to have a listen to this as a comparison...i do try to use the exciter very sparingly but it is there...yeah this is compressed, my own limited version of mastering (lol) to make it fit for human consumption ;)

glad the vocals didnt offend mate

We've heard you sing before. You can sing. What's with all the willies this time around?? I think you should do your vocal take without the lo-fi effect. I'm embarassed to say I don't understand the words. Kids these days.... I tell ya.

Yeah, lots of things going on all over the stereo spectrum. Kind of makes wish you weren't limited to 2 channels and 2 ears. I can imagine what you can do with a quadraphonic system.

I'm on cheap headphones and a hotel internet connection, but it still sounds good. I never would have thought those two genres would mix. Leave it to you to prove me wrong. :)

cheers,

thanks dude, yeah the vocal version is low fi/telephone/megaphone type thing, so good shout

lol @ quadraphonic...it takes all my might to get a stereo mix acceptable :D

cheers bro....i think youre all a bit corned beef but I really appreciate the listens and comments :D

DUB
If the handclaps were excised it would be seriously old school dub.
I like the hand claps though.
The skanking guitar is SPOT on.
Vocal
I've already explained that I like your vocals & am still waiting for that particular track to be ressurected. The vox on this are RIGHT. The FX on them work well & should be enough for you to hide behind IF you need to.
I say COOL. I was listening to the Dub mixes on the Rastaman Vibrations Delux edition last night. Crikey, that's an art form I love/d.
Cool song & GOOD vox.
Hmm, I really quite like Jan's little fiddle about darkening version but would prefer it WITH vocals.

Thanks Ray for the listen and comments...

Old school dub? now thats a talent no pale blue Scot can ever replicate...I wasnt its biggest fan at the time but I still remember some Prince Jammy and Black Uhuru tracks knocking the woofers out of my little bookshelf speakers as a student...and Lee Perrys a monumental talent, mad as a lorry, but still pretty amazing

Yeah the vocals arent that bad...theyre just lazy...this track just hung around for weeks...I tracked most of it the first week I got back...besides I have more interesting projects, me an vocals shall be friends no more :)

still had a couple of offers and Ill stick any mixes up that come along...hope youre well bud :)

Tried to put some of Jans suggestions into darkening the mix, any better?

oh Ive put the update in the first post too

thanks :)

The darkclown mix is VERY cool.
Pale Scots managed to get some rhythm in AWB. It was still lacking in vitamin D but a good imagining given the prevailing cloud cover.

man AWB were some kinda freaks of nature...I have a promoter friend from NY who loves them and would not believe me when I told them they were from Fife, and hes in the business?? :)

thanks for listening to the new mix bro...the wisdom tooth trip was canceled yesterday so my head wasnt hurting too much today, Jan was right..it was way too harsh before, just dropping the HF levels and the compression really makes the mix smoother I think

ah well, first mix in 6 months :)

ta Jan

I understand what you're going through with the vocals. People who aren't sure about their vocals tend to be pretty biased; they think they suck more than they actually do. I think that's the case here. What you're trying to do with the vocals works great with the song, I'd definitely keep em. Everything else about the song is great, it all works and gels together quite nicely. Good stuff! And congratulations on your return to making music.

I just cant be arsed with them...but I wish I wasnt so freaked out when I do use them....actually now they are mixed a bit better, and Ive just copied the same verse, they dont seem so bad

Thanks for listening and the positive comments mate, yes its good to be back...last night we were meant to be going to the cinema, I ended up making bass patches for my slim phatty instead, happy days ;)

Percussion is totally badass man. Dig the rasta riff and flutes. I like the vox.

I want to add some backing vocals to it - email me the lyrics and a dl link :p

thanks for the listen Wes

I used some samples for the clock sound and just heard them on a track yesterday...the exact same ones doh

so Ill have to revisit this, Im gonna cut a chunk of it and do another arrangement...just had wisdom tooth extraction so nothing just now, so no music today as Ive a headache lol...plus two members said they wanted a go at the vocals, havent heard back yet

I really dig the tune KC. You always have great uniqueness to your tunes. Vocals fit perfectly and I would not change a thing myself. Well, except add some live drums. :)

Ive had my eye of V-drums but alas not to be..I think drums are an instrument too far, Ill stick to my MPD :D

thanks for listening Jim and for the comments....I think I want to try something rockier next or in the future...just getting some new pups for an old washburn first

Hey my tartan bro, this sounds so clean and clear, like out of a professional studio.
More "musical" than your recent stuff. You wanna reggea voice, mon? I'll give it a try if you'd like me to....I love to surprise people!:p

Ill take the vocals off and email the dropbox link

Im sure you will do it more than justice.....my lyrics were just an afterthought but I can send them if you want to expand on them or junk them I dont mind at all... ithink there was one good line in there..."no such thing as free, when your life's on a lease"...ooo political lol

This could be cool brother :)
