Brilliant J...thanks for listening man

Im about as reggae as kraft macaroni so Im really glad I pulled something off...though Lee Perry would laugh in my face....then hand me a joint :)


glad it sounds OK on earbuds...one thing i noticed when I was away is that all my mixes are bass heavy and dark, and none translated well, now Im trying to pay attention to how genres are mixed and move up a step so they sound better everywhere


hope it continues ;)
 
Sounds cool kc... always something new happening over the basic toon... like the ending ... just when you're getting into a trancy state with the whole thing... an alarm clock. Killer!

I think you should aim for being banned from the Rap forum next... that would be taking it to a whole new level...

...I saw ya had this up today at work and had to come home and check it. Booted the daughter and her homework offa here too. heh heh...

I'm diggin it man. The mix, the layering and it's translating just fine. Wish my mixes were half this good.
Even listening to the without vocals one, it's got a cool groove. Maybe a little drawn but I'm still on first take.

Always something goin on. Not drawn at all. That butt ugly guitar sounds just right in here too. :)

not necessarily what your going for... but im imagining lil wayne doing vocals on this lol... you should send it to his producers ;)

I listenned to the one with no vocals first and really liked it., and from what you had said, kinda expected the vocals/version to posibley throw a tire iron in it..but no dice..I liked it even more..

triffic Al, the vocals arent that bad...i think once you get praise from your pears the wincing goes a bit...but I think the track sounds way better than my warblings so hopefully someone will pick the vocals up and go for it

ive heard people mention having the clap as a negative thing, I can now empathise :D
 
thats nice. it would be even nicer with vocals ;-)
mixwise, it has maybe a bit too much presence. i would darken it a bit to get it smoother.
 
with too much presence do you mean higher frequencies?

I tend to use an exciter, and sometimes I get too excited with the exciter lol

We've heard you sing before. You can sing. What's with all the willies this time around?? :eek: I think you should do your vocal take without the lo-fi effect. I'm embarassed to say I don't understand the words. Kids these days.... I tell ya. :rolleyes:

Yeah, lots of things going on all over the stereo spectrum. Kind of makes wish you weren't limited to 2 channels and 2 ears. I can imagine what you can do with a quadraphonic system.

I'm on cheap headphones and a hotel internet connection, but it still sounds good. I never would have thought those two genres would mix. Leave it to you to prove me wrong. :)

yes, with presence, i meant frequency-wise. exciters are also bad toys (i never use them) :)

just a very rough sketch (your version was already a bit overcompressed on the masterbus, so this is more for the frequency balance):
